Yuma Arizona, Gold Nuggets, and Bicycles in the Desert
Remembering a trip to Yuma long ago with my new Fisher Gold Bug and my dog DJ looking for new areas to hunt for Gold Nuggets with a metal detector. So hop in the truck and let’s head into the desert…

I need to head there over there soon. Thanks again Bill!
Yes you found the โpot holesโ laguna dam and all American canal. Fun area.
the day I left Yuma in 79 or 80, it was 122 degrees…good lord
Thank you for the storytime! I remember those days of just having a couple books to go on. And an old miner or two. I remember one telling me…"Look at the volcanoes".
Fun stuff. Very enjoyable video! Thank you sir.
I hope you continue to tell us your gold digging stories
My son is stationed at the military base in Yuma. He’s interested in prospecting. I’m in north eastern New Mexico and have found a little gold in the Red River area. Thanks for the video!
WOW … just another good story! LOL! Makes me wish I had started this hobby a lot of years before I did. Keep the stories coming Bill.
Great story for us today Bill. What a time eh. I just thoroughly enjoy sitting here listening to your story’s. Many thanks and I will be here next post fella !
Keep up the good work and thank you
Decided to watch this after the live stream. Cool story ๐
great story
Thanks for sharing!
I was in the Navy and there’s nothing I like better than "Good ole’ Yarn" to pass the time with coffee in the morning !
I’ve seen those Chinese
"Boading" balls in Hong Kong and were a traditional practice older than the "Great Wall" ! You should find the other one ! I was told they were used for meditation by rolling them in your hands, the ringing/chiming is a way to center your mind and relax yourself. No better way I can think to ease back, cool drink in hand, from scrubbing around in desert an allow the ol’ muscles time to rejuvenate.
Love the stories, we usually spend winters in Quartzsite and the Lugana Hills area will be on the list. Thanks ! Tell us more ! Keep’um commin’ cause I’m, I’ll be watchin’ ! ๐๐๐
Cool story and bell ๐
Cool Story Billyโฆ Another cool videoโฆ You could have probably been a famous western movie star if you ever had the desire. Great expressions and very relaxing to always watch your videos and hear your stories. Thanks My Friend!
Love the stories bill. Thanks much.
Ron
I enjoy your stories Bill! Is that site near a railroad? Didnโt the railroad have lots of Asian workers back in the 1800s?
That gro pro really would have come in handy that day down there ๐ I drive to Yuma in a semi Wednesdays and Fridays and come back up 95 by the big military base and always wonder how much gold may be laying in that property ๐ฒโ๏ธ
Always enjoy hearing the stories regarding prospecting Bill! That Chinese medicine ball was awesome…what a cool find.
Hey Bill, I enjoyed your story about the Laguna Placers. I live in Yuma and have been to the placers many times. Very little luck there but I sure enjoy trying. I use a Whites MXT but I like what I see in the ML GM 1000. Keep the adventures going and best wishes for lots of gold, coins, and relics.
I enjoyed hearing about your experiences in Yuma ! I hope to find a small, small place around Wittman to spend some winter months as a home base for my prospecting adventures. My wife has never seen the desert. I grew up in southern Ca. and my dad had bought a few acres around Kingman and we visited an aunt and uncles in Phoenix so I have been drawn to the desert snce I was a kid. ! Take care and thanks for sharing your knowledge on nugget detecting. Wishing you continued success with lots of color !
That ball would have scared me too.
ah maybe ill find one, there were hundreds of Chinese miners in my area.
I live in Yuma love running my Keene 151 and gold bug 2 around here I really like going to the Potholes over on the California side of the river so much mining history here I also love fishing here but man itโs hard to fish places like Mittry when you get to looking into the hills around you knowing what people like us know about that area
Amazing story. Thanks for sharing. I think I would have freaked a little also on picking up that ball. Great find. You definitely need to write a book on your adventures. Take care.
Love your Stories Bill, Keep Em Coming…
Really enjoy these old stories. Wandering a road or path just because or following up on a random lead makes for a good day in my book and not sure I rather find that medicine ball then a couple of nuggets. Keep it up Bill! Brad in Havasu
another great story Bill
Always good to hear the stories of tarting out.
Chinese medicine ball. Aka old timer alarm system.
Great listening to your stories Bill, You are a wealth of information that is always helpful, take care and you and Tammy stay healthy.
Enjoyed it, looking forward to more. What’s amazing is how innovative prospective is i. e. Using a bicycle to construct a dry wash. Again I have enjoyed your video and as always Be Safe and HH.
Arenโt those the Chinese balls they roll in their hands for like meditation or like a hand exercise? My father had a set of those heโd roll them in his hands after he typed a lot or used his hands for some work
Your a great prospector and I enjoy your vids
Nice video I recently started the hunt since I moved to Yuma Az. Still trying to find a CPL honey holes nothing to great yet but keep on the hunt. If have any small advise on a spot to look around at would be grateful. Happing hunting and have a great day.
Awsome storey ๐ hope for a lot more
so jelous seeing all those nice detectors.wish i could affod just one to find gold nuggets but will ever be able to unless i hit the mother load
Nugget again…. nugget again…..๐๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ฉ Salam…from INDONESIA.
Thank you Bill for sharing your story
I live in Yuma. Was stationed here in the marines and decided to stay. I found an old Mexican style spur when I was working at Yuma proving ground. Was pure luck finding it
I recently purchased the gold monster 1000, only to realise all the gold fields around me are closed or are privately owned/leased. So I have decided to use it for coins and relics. My question is what depth do I get with the gold monster and will it pick up treasure targets good?
That was a good story bill. like you said if you look you will find evidence I’m mining.and gold all the best on the next hunt buddy ๐บ๐ธ๐ฌ๐ง๐ oh and happy 4th as well
Thanks bill another great one.
Ron
Laguna you said? As in the mountains? Old Laguna dam road?
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful memory !!
Love them old stories. My girl friend wanted a new car for her birthday,so she shopped around and found this little red coupe 0-160 in less then 20 seconds. Anyway she kept bugging me so,I finally went down to the local Wal-Mart and got her a new bathroom scale. And so now….
Story telling, one of the greatest things on Earth… I absolutely enjoy a good memory and thank you for sharing…. YES, please tell more!!! Tibbs
I’m guessing you were in the Laguna hills if you found pink rocks? There has been a lot of prospecting there. It’s all claimed now
Chinese Ben Wah balls!
Great story and really cool Chinese bell!
