60k per year is better than any job i ever had!! Thats 30 an hour… why do they keep making it sound like coal miners are broke??? Just because you spent your money on dope doesnt make you poor.

  3. Kelly Shelton on September 8, 2022 at 8:46 am

I seen mine operators cover the dust boxes with baggies to make it look safer for lungs than it really was

I think it was a slap in the face the way that owner built that huge house right there in the middle. Especially knowing all these poor men are struggling.

  9. David Dave on September 8, 2022 at 8:57 am

    And they vote for Republicans….

  10. Charlotte Higginbotham on September 8, 2022 at 8:59 am

Yep! My father was a real Mountain man and my mommas sang old song’s about Native American kin – folks. A real scary kind of life.

  11. Auto Focus on September 8, 2022 at 8:59 am

“My sides been killing me. Hurts real bad.”

“Chips, a lot of candy bars, my Red Bull, gotta have my cigarettes.”

I think we found the culprits.

  12. David on September 8, 2022 at 8:59 am

I work in western Kentucky with a bunch of ex coal miners. They eat like a bunch of 5th graders. Bologna and catsup sandwiches, little Debbie cakes and MD. Their diets are awful. Great people. Bad taste in food.

  15. John Bradburn on September 8, 2022 at 9:06 am

I so much admire these guys. After high school, I joined the US Navy, then after that I worked in the mine. I admit that I couldn’t take it and quit after only a couple years. They said they were sorry to see me go, that I was a hard worker but they understood. I worked in a factory after that and had to take a big pay cut.

  16. azsp8 on September 8, 2022 at 9:06 am

    Can’t wait until i turn 18

  17. B B on September 8, 2022 at 9:06 am

Wait until the liberals have these mines shutdown too. Then Appalachia will lose all industry and become even more of a welfare and drug dependent region.

  18. Kelly Shelton on September 8, 2022 at 9:06 am

Ever since Obama was president the coal industry has been in a decline but in Harlan Ky the underground mining industry will never be able to get back to the way it was! We have zero ways to make money without the industry!

  19. Generic Goon on September 8, 2022 at 9:06 am

I like doing some mining in my garden, found some quartz with various metals covering it, found a tiny bit of gold ore just laying there and other stuff. It’s fun in my opinion, it’s like building things except you are carving into the world and if you’re bored, you can make a small depo inside your own mine, maybe even place track if you want (normally I don’t need to as I end up blowing up the mine after some distance or the surrounding rock being too weak for some reason)

  20. ButThatsShacksTrain on September 8, 2022 at 9:07 am

At 2:15 this miner says something no "surface hugger" ( myself included) can possibly fathom.
    God bless these people.

  21. Jeremy Pitchford on September 8, 2022 at 9:07 am

I love working at the coal mine you become close to everyone you work with you look out for each other that way everyone gets to go home to there family’s

  22. Edward Moore on September 8, 2022 at 9:08 am

She should know that the guys weren’t going to say anything with the owners standing right there.black lung is there cause it’s in the coal.

Not a single women working these jobs .
Why aren’t women demanding equal rights for such jobs .
They must be given equal opportunity in such jobs to truly know what it means to demand equal rights .

Watch the video of Richard Burton, the actor, talk about his father’s life as a coal miner. He had loved and took such pride in his work. It was a short but great, and eye-opening, video.

  37. Paleo Geology on September 8, 2022 at 9:24 am

ive been first a miner and now mine owner since i was 18 yrs old and im now 40. When i see how selfish most city folks are these days it makes me sad, they have no idea what it takes to make all the things they take for granite. These boys are the last of what I call the reliables in our country today. Those boys are there everyday and rarely late, not to mention they very rarely ever complain about anything

  38. Danny Flores on September 8, 2022 at 9:24 am
