World's biggest mine: Inside US coal

World's biggest mine: Inside US coal

Barack Obama’s pledge to cut carbon emissions has not stopped North Antelope Rochelle mine in Wyoming. In fact, production is booming – and climate change is off the agenda. The Guardian’s Suzanne Goldenberg gets a rare look inside the biggest coal mine in the world.

The real enemy of coal mining in the U.S. are not the politicians or elites that speak out against it. Instead, it’s the economic use of natural gas to generate electricity. Wonder how this "world’s biggest mine: Inside US coal" is doing now. Nobody seems to know!

"They’re just doing it for their bottom line." Sort of like every other company in this country. There’s no other industry that would be told not to make money, or to lose money because their product damages the environment.

  5. G R on July 22, 2021 at 8:48 pm

Just 1 ton of this coal produces 3700lbs or carbon dyoxide???

  6. D S on July 22, 2021 at 8:50 pm

stop with the climate change BS – one volcano eruption puts out more carbon then man has produced since the beginning of our existence. Get a new pyramid scheme – climate change is BS!

THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO SEE THE MINE NOT A CLIMATE CHANGE REPORT?! ANYWAYS WE DON’T NEED FOSSIL FUELS, GAS ,OIL ,COAL, YES WE MAY NEED COAL TO MAKE STEEL BUT WE DON’T NEED IT IN OUR POWER PLANTS WE CAN DESIGN EVERYTHING TO RUN ON HHO TWO PARTS HYDROGEN ONE PART OXYGEN IT’S SO EASY TO SPLIT THE ATOMS TO MAKE HYDROGEN OR OXYGEN AND IT’S ALL MADE WITH JUST WATER YOU CAN DO IT AT HOME WITH COMMON HOUSEHOLD ITEMS CHECK OUT THE STAN MEYER VIDEO HE WAS MURDERED BECAUSE HE MADE A CAR THAT RUNS ON WATER

They don’t care that 80 percent of coal country is coal miners shut down the mines and America will go broke

  17. Lester Gillis on July 22, 2021 at 9:03 pm

This presumes that "climate change" is caused by man made industry.
What if it’s caused more by variable solar output ? ?

  18. MrMinnesota99 on July 22, 2021 at 9:04 pm

2000 lbs of coal contains 3700 lbs of carbon? Must be using common core math…

  19. MrMinnesota99 on July 22, 2021 at 9:05 pm

Also, increased atmospheric co2 encourages plant and forest growth making the earth more green

Climate change is going to happen regardless of coal mines.
The sun is getting bigger and hotter so the earth will eventually turn into a hot charcoal.
Wanna save nature? Uhmmm don’t have kids. Humans create pollution to the planet but like I said, humans or no humans, earth is not going to last forever.
Look at China, they pollute and populate more than any other country in the world, but not a single word is said 😶

  23. StereoSpace on July 22, 2021 at 9:10 pm

Who didn’t know this "news" piece was gonna be a hit piece on the coal industry?

  24. Bull Miller on July 22, 2021 at 9:11 pm

How exactly does 2000 lbs of coal produce 3700 lbs of emissions?

  25. ZanyBlakeSpeed on July 22, 2021 at 9:12 pm

Humans, the only species arrogant enough to believe we are ruining the earth! Zero proof! Zero facts! No model to base the theory off of since there is only been one earth. Just hypothetical bull…t. So America goes totally green, so what! The rest of the world does not. China, India and many third world countries signed the Paris Climate change and then do not even come close to meeting their goals. All in the single digits compared to where they are supposed to be. What a joke. A green country means hyperinflation, a week economy and the end of this great country!

  26. W W on July 22, 2021 at 9:12 pm

When the tough questions get asked, turn off the camera 🤣🤣 coal is only one problem that causes pollution. You could stop coal use tomorrow and the effect stopping coal use and mining would be very negligible.

  27. C0ZMO on July 22, 2021 at 9:12 pm

World will be over by the time we can even make the slightest difference in climate change. 🤦‍♂️

  28. Janet M M on July 22, 2021 at 9:14 pm

Americas carbon footprint is small compared to other countries.
Coal isnt just used for burning.

  30. GoneBamboo on July 22, 2021 at 9:16 pm

Global warming is a Boogeyman invented by global elites in the letters of Rome. Since the Grand Solar Minimum is now on progress, it has been changed to ‘climate change’. People will be freezing to death on the mini ice-age, few cultures have existed long enough to remember. Why is China buying food like it’s going out of style?

    The sky is falling…..

  35. Chris Dreiling on July 22, 2021 at 9:27 pm

There is a volcano erupting in Hawaii that they say has been erupting for 300 years every single day but there worried about burning a little coal. We are still warming from the last ice age. When it gets time it will start getting colder tell there’s another ice age. It’s called history

  36. Dynamic Solution on July 22, 2021 at 9:28 pm

So 1 ton of coal produces 3,700 lbs of waste/carbon gas..sounds like liberal logic.

  37. SwissExcavators on July 22, 2021 at 9:29 pm

If we are the problem, why we are not in the ice age anymore?

  38. TIM BO on July 22, 2021 at 9:32 pm

    Coal keeps the lights on

  39. Martin Ulig on July 22, 2021 at 9:33 pm

This is a quarry, why do they keep calling it “a mine”?

  40. Kurt Pochert on July 22, 2021 at 9:33 pm

When Mt. St. Hellen erupted it negated any reduction of CO2 produced by man. Volcanos, earthquakes, and the Sun itself are by far the greatest contributors to Climate Change. There were glaciers over Michigan 10,000 yr ago and Man had nothing to do with their retreat. Yes, responsible use of our Earth’s resources is in order, but major contributors by Man toward climate change is not based on any sound science.

  41. STAR on July 22, 2021 at 9:33 pm

Wow I come to see the mine and what do I get? Politics.
So you want to shut down coal use, but you also don’t want to put the money and effort into alternatives. Pointless!

2: Are you willing to live Without air conditioning – for your children and grandchildren?

  46. Danny Deshler on July 22, 2021 at 9:37 pm

They cry and whine about coal but have no answer on what to use to replace it…And don’t say wind and solar, they aren’t even remotely close to being able to keep up with the power output of coal. Technology has not advanced to the point of eliminating coal, we need to work on cleaning up the emissions from the coal boilers, that will be a way to keep what we need and help the environment.

  47. Russ mt on July 22, 2021 at 9:37 pm

1:35 " just1 ton of this coal releases 3700 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions " how does that work.

  48. sdm115 on July 22, 2021 at 9:38 pm

    Climate change huh
I wanted to see coal mining not ur climate change bs

  49. Deploracle on July 22, 2021 at 9:38 pm

Stop burning the coal and most of the plants and trees on Earth will suffocate.
