WHY I LEFT CHIROPRACTIC (What is Naprapathic Medicine?)

WHY I LEFT CHIROPRACTIC (What is Naprapathic Medicine?)

Created by @Lais DeLeon

Naprapathy is a system of manually applied movements, both passive and active, designed to bring motion with consequent release of tension into abnormally tensed and rigid ligaments, muscles and articulations of the human body. The tissues and structures are normally moveable, flexible and resilient.

In 1907, after devising a system of treatment for evaluating and healing damaged connective tissue, Dr. Smith founded the science of Naprapathy. Dr. Smith was an avid traveler. He liked learning about other cultures and health care practices around the world. While traveling in Czechoslovakia, he learned about an old healing practice called napravit. Dr. Smith observed the practice of napravit and found it to be similar to the technique he had been developing in United States, a gentle manipulation of constricted joints to loosen and relax.

Southwest University of Naprapathic Medicine (SUNM) prepares its students to successfully participate in the world of complementary manual medicine using a hybrid online and face-to-face educational model. SUNM aspires to make Naprapathic medicine the premier health management leader in the field of drug-free manual medicine.

SUNM holds the honor of being the only licensed school of Naprapathic medicine in New Mexico and one of two licensed Naprapathic Medicine schools in the United States

In the Czechoslovakian language, napravit means “to correct, or fix.” Dr. Smith took “napra” from napravit (to correct) and added the Greek word pathos (suffering, or pain) to coin the name naprapathy, to correct suffering or pain. Dr. Oakley established his practice in Chicago, Illinois. Today, Chicago is the home of the largest university devoted to naprapathy, the National College of Naprapathic Medicine.

Naprapathy is a very helpful health profession that can be the saving grace for individuals who are suffering from problems with their soft connective tissues, joints, and spine. To become a doctor of naprapathic medicine is to provide aid to those suffering from chronic pain and limited movement. It is a very good add on for physical therapy or chiropractic or occupational therapy.

Thanks for the advise on BMI. Time under stress or stressing the body with bad diet is something that I learned today from you. Sometimes the messaging needs context.

soft tissue work has to go hand in hand with chiro. only makes sense. i am glad we are getting to homeopathic 360 deg view of health! its kind of the chicken and the egg when you look at one or the other, do muscles/connective get tight and cause alignment problems, or do alignment problems cause muscles/connective to tighten up like guy wires in attempt to keep body in check? both are important and work together.

Osteopathic doc here. I’d love to collaborate with you to bridge the gap between standard allopathic/osteopathic and chiropractic and naprapathic

In a lot of medicine working on another doctor can be quite a task: it was good to watch him get treatment and follow direction pretty much better than any patient you’ve ever had on the channel! You also would expect that from someone with that kind of lineage of having manual therapy done literally his entire life.

I grew up in Albuquerque but am currently practicing in Orlando as an LMT and working to get my chiropractic license.
This will definitely be on my list for a future program. Look forward to returning back to the 505 and working with you Doc 🙌🏽

How would you contrast naprapathy, with A.R.T. soft tissue work? as the recipient of numerous A.R.T. treatments over the years as well as many mates at my gym, I’ve been very impressed with its effectiveness for treating chronic injuries & the resultant pain.

New Mexico is the Land of Entrapment, I got out. New Mexico is rough to transition to if you’re used to 3+ seasons and more than high desert and desert views.

Dr. Hightower, have you gotten the opportunity to watch Dr. McLaughlin of McLaughlin Chiropractic? The family he is a part of is also using a blend of therapies to treat their patients.

I was treated by Dr. Hightower back in 2014. I have spasmodic torticollis (cervical dystonia). Are there any clinics in Santa Fe? I know a ton of athletes and co-workers who could use your help

Thanks Doc. I needed this. I had my bicep reattached on the 30th at the elbow. This exact video is what I needed. Can’t find anyone within a hour drive of me to do this, so I have to work on the soft tissue myself.
