North america black soul food is based on the scraps that slaves were given. The cooking style is not based on the garbage that they gave us as slaves. But yea, soul food good AF 😂
Yeah, for better or worse I never had such adverse racial experiences. Some things probably slipped past my head, and i grew up in an area w a decent asian community, so i think I don’t have much of a painbody in that aspect. It seems Jon cares abt what ppl think a lot and is trying to work towards rewriting "the narrative" to influence a society where ppl don’t say shitty things abt food or something like someone did to him as a kid. And there’s probably always gonna be ppl who care abt what others think in different lvls. Not sure abt "decolonization", but i think if ppl work towards things they believe and try to bring the best of themselves, most of the time it’s not the worst thing
It boggles my mind that anyone actually believed that kind of thing? Like, how are you going to actually believe that the plate full of vegetables you get from Chinese food is worse for you than the plate full of vegetables your mom makes you eat? I get the MSG thing– people were crazy about that, but like… The only difference in the broccoli in the Chinese food from the boiled stuff you get as a side is the Chinese know the true potential of broccoli’s flavor absorbing power.
Racism is illogical.
My husband was made fun of in school for bringing curries from home. Got told it looked like dog/cat food/vomit.
He started just taking sandwiches to school even though he hates them and thinks they’re bland.
I’m Jamaican and trust me when I tell you whenever those very same people try ethnic food they refrain from eating the real garbage they consume on a day to day basis.
Guess what, EVERY FUCKING CUISINE is made from scraps and garbage.
The italian cuisine is one of the most famous on the planet but can be reduced to
"Ok, I have pasta and some poor animal i killed this morning… in how many ways can I combine those things…"
Cuisine has to be made from scraps because that’s what the poor peoples had to eat; we cannot forget millenias of history because some (casually english native speaker) fucker said that his shitty food his superior for REASONS?!
I hope im not being ignorant or insensitive, if so I apologize, but isn’t it historically accurate that many of these recipes did come from slavery and the scraps that slave owners would throw out? I wasn’t under the impression that was some lie perpetuated by colonialism or however you phrased it.
We indians know we eat healthy ( relatively). Rule of thumb anything u make in ur home with good ingredients( even though it’s fried) will always be better than restaurant bought salads or other "healthy" Menu.
I’m Korean, I’m in my 40’s, but born and raised in America. This has literally never happened to me. And until I saw a few of your shorts, I have never heard someone say that ethnic food is unhealthy, ever. Msg as an ingredient, yes, but never Asian food as a whole. You are pushing a narrative that is untrue a seems like you are looking for validation. Stop it.
If these people dont like your food, they could just not eat it. I like bland food. I really do not see why people are complaining about other peoples food. Its just food if they like it let em eat it. (This is where ill get people complaining) i feel like the people in America are too free, people getting freedom just makes them more likely to complain. (Im not talking about freedom of specific groups of people, like people can say whatever they want and nothing happens
Im so thankful my parents raised me in a very integrated community. Ive had food from every nationality around me, and so far my absolute favorite (even as a mainly meat based diet person) has been Indian vegetarian food
Oh my gosh thank you for such a beautiful post! I have watched you cook and this solidifies your intelligence understanding of history and culture; you rock!💜
Great video, I always like the deep mindset that you have about the world and how cooking relates to it.
I couldn’t help but notice that you put an FF7 remix as the music! Great choice
Such Bullsxxt. Everyone in America loves soul food and Asian cuisine. No ONE refers to it as " inferior". Frankly, our love of potatoes comes from the UK, while our love of sugar, comes from France, and literally NOONE defends them as healthy. Sorry to interrupt your big woke BLM with a moment of reality.

The smile at the end makes my rainy day full of sunshine ☀️
… and I’m hungry again 🙂
I love you honesty we have some of the most soulfully flavorful dishes we learned to make something amazing out of nothing ✊🤎
Ironic that Americans call other countries’s food unhealthy while also having an obesity rate off over 33%
Edit: spelling

I guess it’s where you from, because I never heard anything negative about others food. Mostly, that it was healthier.
Dude who tf says this

What’s the music playing in the background?
You, your spirit, your kind eyes, your words, your food, your dog, your home, your kitchen… are beautiful. K bye ☺️
I love getting white people to try cow brains and tongue
Yea no one was taught that. You’re just justifying your hatred against whites.

Lmao wtf are you on about

I love you
Shoutout to the people who have never even thought about this but can recall a tome it hit them in their childhood
Love this so much! Thank you!❣️💕
I did like "Tifa’s Theme" being featured at least.
We indians know we eat healthy ( relatively). Rule of thumb anything u make in ur home with good ingredients( even though it’s fried) will always be better than restaurant bought salads or other "healthy" Menu.
I legit got emotional listening to this. Didn’t even realize I needed to hear it.
The song is called Tifa’s Theme from Final Fantasy 7. Hope everyone is doing well and holding on too hope for better days ❤️🦦🦝❤️
If you’re people/anyone are that insecure about your food, you’re an inferior person. Just be secure

you’re so fine chef
On God if someone cooks me a meal and then starts going into race theory and theory and s*** like that I’m gonna smack his a**
Sorry I stopped listening in the middle of your story bcs I found you eating soup attractive 👀
I don’t mind watching the second time tho… 😏
no but msg is actually really unhealthy 🤨
I feel you but MSG gives me headaches
What the fuck are you talking about? Just stop being weird
Im so thankful my parents raised me in a very integrated community. Ive had food from every nationality around me, and so far my absolute favorite (even as a mainly meat based diet person) has been Indian vegetarian food
Love you, friend, but I genuinely got migraines from MSG, even if I didn’t know I was eating it.
Oh my god, get the fuck off my feed.
I mean if food is caked in grease and sugar it’s going to make you feel like shit due to how unhealthy it is to cake something in grease and sugar
Chef Jon Kung, nothing but the truth!!!

Wow thanks for refreshing 😌 my mind🫶🙌🙌🙌
Love you bro , thanks for this ..
No one will ever tell me my cultural food isn’t magnificent. I have the entire African _continent_ of cuisine distinctly telling me otherwise. 👏🏾❤️
Ok colonized
Shit if Mexican food was healthy I wouldn’t have been fat as a kid
