Been prospectin Colorado since 1999. I’ve found North Clear Creek below Blackhawk as the most promising area for small scale placer mining. Around 2005 I checked out where they were excavating for the foundation of the Blackhawk water treatment plant. It was where there had long been a
tourist business, where tourists would try their luck at panin. Princess Diana had actually stopped there once to try her luck at pannin when she was taking a tour of the Western United States. Just for the sake of curiosity I snuck in there on a Sunday when they weren’t operating. In the cuts they had made in virgin ground for the foundation of the plant they were building, I took samples from the very visible paystreaks of black sand. It was super rich, I was gettin a lot of color in each pan! Because I was technically trespassin, and the dirt where they had made cuts was fallin out when I shoveled it, I decided I shouldn’t continue diggin it out. The dirt they had excavated, they didn’t even try to run it through a sluice. There must have been tens of thousands of dollars worth of gold just wasted!

How about covering some lesser known areas. Or maybe places that don’t produce large amounts of gold. Thanks.

Is there anything in or near Lamar co

  21. Patriot on January 10, 2023 at 10:48 pm

Durango is my home town and yes the gold king spill is still causing reprocussions but the whole area around silverton is rich in all kinds of metals. I used to walk the ore cart lines and pick up lode material. I could give you so much info on this area it would blow your mind. The richest spanish mine was supposedly in silvertons area. Silverton is actually an extinct volcano. Look at the old assays some of the richest assays have been from the silverton area. Jess you are the first person i have heard cover this area in a very very long time.

woo-hoo! I live in Colorado. There is gold all over in the mountains. I know that unnamed placer that you mentioned in Grand Junction (I live in western colorado). It is on the Gunnison River and has mostly flour gold. I am still searching for a really hot spot!

  23. Nick Chambers on January 10, 2023 at 10:51 pm

He says it like ooohray colorado. Lol Ouray is pronounced YOU-RAY dude. I live here…

  24. Roamer on January 10, 2023 at 10:51 pm

Hi Jess, I’m enjoying your videos. Gold in CO is especially interesting to me since I live on the western slope (Ridgway) and I’m looking for nearby places to prospect. I’ve been told that all the gold from Ouray down to Durango is super fine or chemically bound so not really good for panning. Do you know if this is true? Is there larger gold on this portion of the western slope? I’ve been hoping there is around Silverton. My next trip is to the Arkansas river a few hours away. Be Well, Don

  25. John Garcia on January 10, 2023 at 10:51 pm

What do you know about working abandoned mines and claims. Are they open to anyone or how would you go about acquiring the right to mine or pan an area?

  29. Monty Holland on January 10, 2023 at 10:56 pm

Hey do you know of any places to pan on the Northeast Plains of Colorado. Or very doubtful?

  30. Natasha Wheatley on January 10, 2023 at 10:58 pm

Hi I was wondering is there any gold in Clark Colorado? Are you familiar with this area?

  31. robert humphrey on January 10, 2023 at 10:58 pm

That last spot looked like rattlesnake Gulch outside of Delta Colorado.

  32. James Davis on January 10, 2023 at 10:58 pm

PJ——-you failed to mention FairPlay and Breckinridge as well as Como all areas where large dredges were run way back when this was all placer operation. Cripple Creek area essentially lode gold. I’ve sluiced and highbanked Clear Creek from Idaho Springs East into Denver . Outstanding gold most days. Forgot to mention Blackhawk and Central City two mining towns that were also Lode Gold. Like your videos keep up the great job!

  34. Raoul Duke on January 10, 2023 at 11:01 pm

Cripple creek and Goldfield are not new…lol..they are still going…but yeah there was more gold and sylvanite and gems pulled out of Cripple creek than any one place in the world. But ahhh yeah don’t bother going up there Colorado is full and all the gold is gone!

I’ve been asked how do you create these gold maps? These custom gold maps are created using the USGS MRDS and a process I use to find gold and related minerals in places like Colorado. Check GGM out at https://SourdoughMiner.com/GGM/
