This was an awesome place to explore , Hidden in this Arizona valley lies old Pinal city . Final home of Matty Earp ex-wife of Wyatt the famous lawman. .
Pinal City’s biggest claim to fame is as the death place of Celia Ann “Mattie” Blaylock, Wyatt Earp’s common law wife on 4 July 1888, from an alcohol and laudanum overdose.
When the Silver King Mine played out, Pinal City went into steep decline. The post office closed on November 28, 1891, and the town was deserted shortly thereafter.
The nearby Silver Queen mine continued and gradually became a better producer of copper, forming the basis of the town site of Superior by 1900Originally named Picket Post, At its height, Pinal City had a population of 2000 residents, a bank, a church, several stores and saloons, a hotel, and its own newspaper, “The Pinal Drill.” Picket Post was renamed Pinal City on June 27, 1879. The devaluation of silver made the mines unprofitable and the town quickly dwindeled. By 1890, only ten people were left. Very little remains of Pinal City today. The remains of the fountain of the mill site are still visible.
Perhaps the biggest claim to fame of Pinal City is that this is where Mattie Blaylock, Wyatt Earp’s common law wife, met her end. While living in Tombstone, she had became addicted to laudanum. She left Tombstone for good in 1882, bound for California, but moved to Pinal City, a town that she and Wyatt had stopped at in 1879 en route to Tombstone. By this time, Pinal City was a shadow of its former self. On July 3, 1888, Mattie Blaylock committed suicide by taking a lethal dose of laudanum. She was buried in the Pinal City cemetery.
Also of interest, nearby at N 33° 16.963 W 111° 08.356 are a set of wagon track gouged into the soft volcanic rock. Been there a few times. First thing i found was the wagon tracks in the rock. There were several heavy depressions that were cellar holes too. Never saw that well. The creek is the Queen Creek I believe and was running barely. Had little minnows or tadpoles in it! Mattie Earp died there of drug OD

I can show you some out in mountain that no one knows they are there …there is no mine in that area recorded and no mill in that area , but it dose say the Jesuit were milling Gold ore …doesn’t that make you wonder ,what were they moving ..from a mine that doesn’t exist ! what ever it was it was heavy …!
