I am pretty sure that bundle of strange items that you found had something to do with some kind of spell casting.
I reckon it looks like a bunch of stuff associated with a murder. Big ass knife, hammer, shears, shovel, blanket, random cash that has basically no value but is buried for no reason (other than the possibility that the person who hid it might have thought collected coins/notes might be tracked in some way if spent or sold)? Speaking as a prior Army man, the shovel is called an "entrenching tool". The newer style folds up into a plastic pouch the size of the shovel blade.
