Virtual Underground Mine Tour in Silver Reef, Utah
Virtual Underground Mine Tour in Silver Reef, Utah
This tour of an 1870s-era silver mine, in the historic mining district of Silver Reef near St. George Utah, was mainly created using LIDAR technology. We took the LIDAR imagery and created a virtual walking tour of this mine pointing out things of interest along the way. The best part about this tour is that you’ll encounter none of the dangers associated with exploring an abandoned mine. Out of the dozens of historic mines around Silver Reef, this particular mine was chosen because it has all of the classic features of an underground gold or silver mine.
Primary funding to create this video was provided by the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, Utah Humanities and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. Very nice and informative. I liked how you explained the different parts of a mine and the terminology.
Very cool !
Sweet thank you!😎👌
Just discovered this channel, you took me way back! I grew up in Leeds and remember even going to the Silver Reef museum for school tours.
Thats just the barred off mine portal. There’s a second (and third) around there. Plus tons of barred shafts.
Beautiful work! Can you share what LIDAR equipment was used for for this capture?
Thank you for this very interesting and well made video! 🙂
Cool, we just moved to St. George area and this is great. Adventure coming.
This is cool! Thanks!
Outstanding ! Thank you for making this available.
Nice job on the video. The hype of the danger of abandoned mines is a little over the top,
i’ve walked through this mine many times. it’s called the Cob mine. There’s actually still water at the bottom of the vertical shaft that you didn’t go down farther. It’s dangerous to breath though. I grew up in silver reef.
Wow, that was super cool. You’re narrator seems so knowledgeable too. The explanations about the different cavities was interesting and unique.
Awesome video! In my geology education, I had taken a few mining courses and really wish more people would appreciate the history of mining and respect just how much we have in our lives as a result of mining (vs. the general hate of mining). Looking forward to the next mining videos!
