Virtual Underground Mine Tour in Silver Reef, Utah

Virtual Underground Mine Tour in Silver Reef, Utah

This tour of an 1870s-era silver mine, in the historic mining district of Silver Reef near St. George Utah, was mainly created using LIDAR technology. We took the LIDAR imagery and created a virtual walking tour of this mine pointing out things of interest along the way. The best part about this tour is that you’ll encounter none of the dangers associated with exploring an abandoned mine. Out of the dozens of historic mines around Silver Reef, this particular mine was chosen because it has all of the classic features of an underground gold or silver mine.

Primary funding to create this video was provided by the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, Utah Humanities and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. Video production by content-smith LLC dba BackRoadsWest.com. (http://backroadswest.com/content/ and http://backroadswest.com/)

Nice job on the video. The hype of the danger of abandoned mines is a little over the top,

Awesome video! In my geology education, I had taken a few mining courses and really wish more people would appreciate the history of mining and respect just how much we have in our lives as a result of mining (vs. the general hate of mining). Looking forward to the next mining videos!

Beautiful work! Can you share what LIDAR equipment was used for for this capture?
