I have worked on 25th st for 24 years, upstairs in one of the old brothels. It is quite amazing and I have watched it change over the years. Pretty sure we have a resident ghost lady lol!

Great story. My husband loves that old guy at The Gift House, he used to stop every day on his way to the train station. And people who think Ogden is so dangerous really needs to come hang out for a while. I live in what I considered the “ghetto” but it was a house we could afford with a big yard. I love it here, I love my neighbors, it’s super quiet at night. I have never locked my car or my back door. And as a middle aged white lady I would walk around my block at night anytime without fear.

I’ve been in bad neighborhoods in Naples and NYC and Ogden is a walk in the park. Literally, the river walk through town is gorgeous.

Deanie Wimmer said it’s because of the sharks machines that this so-called town is stuck in time.. yikes!!!

This is a great story. So true about the alcohol being easier to get then as opposed to now. That bar looks really cool. i’ll have to check it out sometime

Dang it! I’ve been telling the Al Capone story for years!

  14. xradiolove on March 16, 2023 at 5:28 am

Maybe there’s a small part of Ogden that I can see people avoiding, but the rest of the area is fine. I honestly think people exaggerate and need to leave the state of UT to realize how wrong they are about it. I’m glad that the state of UT is growing as it’s bringing lots of much needed changes. 🙂 I’m not originally from here though, so I know plenty of UT born folk disagree. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I grew up there. I have a very love/hate relationship with that place
    That said, Ogden Tigers Rule!

Except they built over priced over inflated California’d apartments right in the middle of 25th street towering over the old buildings (with nowhere for the residents to park by the by) and they’re thinking of California-ing that street even more with paid parking like okay if you want the businesses to RIP & for them to die like in the late 90’s early 00’s then be my guest & of course they’re going to tear down Union Station too & urbanize that with more over priced over inflated California’d apartments there, too. So there’s nothing unique about Ogden or 25th street anymore or atleast there won’t be for long… Unless if you count the notorious Ogden crackheads that roam around

Too bad Ogden City is ruining 25th Street and Union Station.

  20. Tawsha Phillips on March 16, 2023 at 5:34 am

Stuck in time?? Maybe not everyone wants to turn into a SLC or Layton . Leave Ogden alone!! Horrible cheap apartments going up everywhere, they come in buy up the neighborhood cut down the trees and raise the rent. Just sad. Once you build on all of our farm land and green space and fill it with people how are you going to feed and water um??

Imagine how Ogden would be if a Mall would not have replaced all the retail stores on Washington Blvd.
Here in Ogden use to call the 25th red light district

Live in Ogden all my life and grandpa was a bootlegger

  23. Jordan Siple on March 16, 2023 at 5:47 am

Study the history of Helper, Utah. There are tunnels beneath the city.

  25. swingforthefences777 on March 16, 2023 at 5:49 am

I’ve lived in Utah, my whole life and the only place in Utah. I would consider dangerous is Ogden. It is the one city in Utah. I would avoid at all costs.

My Great Uncle owned The American Eagle Cafe at 252 25th Street. It used to be opened 24/7 to serve Meals to the Railroad Passengers. I grew up there in the 60’s- 70’s talking to Gypsy’s the ran a Fortune Telling Business, and heard stories from the Alcoholics in the back alley, That Was Known as Electric Alley!

  31. mitchell Standing on March 16, 2023 at 6:01 am

Grown up there my whole life. It has completely revitalized in the last 15 years. I love my town.
