When the Indians were uprising against them, they loaded the silver onto donkeys and moved it into the local mountains until things cooled off and they could return to get it. They never did.
A javelina hunter found the silver in the 50’s (an article in the paper showed him with a bar and then he "couldn’t remember" the location! Suuuure! I bet he realized he was stupid to say anything about the find!).
