The suit was filed in Federal District Court. The plaintiff is representing himself, and filed pro forma. He also claimed indigence to avoid paying court costs. I read the complaint, and there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on Fenn’s behalf. I’ll be surprised if the case makes it past a preliminary hearing.

Is he going to go to France next and sue the Catholic Church because he couldn’t find the Holy Grail? It seems like he went on the hunt expecting to find it but was devastated when he didn’t. When someone goes to the Casino they want to win but they don’t HAVE to win.

This lawsuit seems frivolous, but I’ll say this much: I consider Fenn to be a terrible riddler. If no one has been able to find the treasure in a *decade* – including people who have practically devoted their lives to solving the puzzle – then it’s not out of line to surmise that his clues are too obscure. Think of how many people have won the Powerball lottery in the last ten years, and the odds for that are horrendous. Yet Fenn’s poem is allegedly solvable through intelligence, study, wit, and persistence – qualities that should *improve* one’s chances of success, not lessen them.

I can also say from experience that Fenn doesn’t answer reasonable inquiries (that is, general questions of the "yes/no" variety that are typically fair game for riddles). If the only person who can figure out a riddle is the one who presented it, maybe it’s not such a good game.

What a way to spend your money. Give it to a lawyer to start a lawsuit that has no merit. The lawyer will take the money even though he knows he won’t win.

If one listens to ALL information, one comes to greater understanding. It is absurd the legal system allows for frivolous lawsuits to be filed. Perhaps, there is a clue in this for some.

This clown deserves an award for all his work! The "Worst Financial Planner Ever" award, or the "Self-Victimizer" award. Don’t worry, both can serve as a placeholder for your future "Darwin" award!

  23. Tim Dinh on April 14, 2022 at 8:42 am

Man people are so greedy they gotta sue fenn when all he wanted to do was make a real treasure hunt for people to have fun looking for. It ain’t his fault “treasure hunters” wasted thier life away and found nothing. It’s called a riddle for a reason, it’s supposed to be misleading. If the book wasn’t misleading, someone would’ve found it the first month and not after more than 10 years. Freakin selfish.

  26. mr. T on April 14, 2022 at 8:53 am

Mr Hanson is FOS… FF will not give any hints to anybody to get them closer or further away from the treasure. Everybody gets the same information as everybody else. He has a grandson looking for it and he doesn’t get any inside info…why does Mr Hanson think he received special privilege information. He is a scam artist. Oh and Mr Fenn will soon have vindication. Then I want to watch Mr Hanson squirm.

The real treasure is the rivers, mountains, meadows, forests, and wildlife in that untamed wilderness…

  28. Kristy Rodriguez on April 14, 2022 at 8:57 am

This person is full of crap. When you try to get something for nothing you must expect to come up short- it’s called taking the risk.
If this man wins his case, that opens doors to sue every contest promoter out there, including the casinos and the government lotteries; those trying to get contracts such as government contracts and those who apply to be on housing lists and/or apply for disability and get turned down.
How about those in the game show audiences who weren’t chosen to play?
Reference the saying bub and wisen up: if it sounds too good to be true ,it probably is.
What an entitlement attitude this one has.

i like how this reporter assumes the treasure is in new mexico. searchers time spent in the woods looking for treasure .000001%…… searchers time spent on google earth and internet searching .999999% (did the exact opposite of the intended purpose). people are on the internet MORE because of the treasure., spending all their free time on google earth instead of doing productive things.

  34. Clancy Littleboy on April 14, 2022 at 9:03 am

I see a definite trend for the comments Forrest Fenn makes to bloggers and others who interview him.  He gives misleading hints that cause the interviewer to search farther from the treasure.  He seems to believe that giving more hints to "closer" people is unfair, so he does the reverse.  So you will only get useful information if it is delivered at a far distance from the usual bloggers.  The old stuff can be trusted more than the newer hints.
