Topaz Crystal Treasures Popping Out The Ground in Utah

Topaz Crystal Treasures Popping Out The Ground in Utah

OPEN TO PUBLIC LOCATION!!!
This round we ended up in Utah digging Topaz Crystals with “Topaz Mountain Adventures” Check out their facebook page for public fee digs! They have several options, blasting being one of them! This area is 2 Million Years Old, and there is lifetimes of even blasting to be done here. So no running out of topaz anytime soon, but getting them out of the hard rock can be tough!

We’ve collected a few topaz from topaz mountain but I cannot figure out how to clean them? Please tell me how to get the rest of the rock (or whatever it’s called) off the stone itself. I’ve looked online and just can’t find anything helpful.

Use sturdy chopsticks, if the rhyolite isn’t too tough, to dig instead of a chisel point.

I lived in that area for about 5 yrs and never saw a tarantula, several scorpions, but no tarantulas. I need to go back and get up to Topaz mountain for sure.

Brian, what type of rock is the topaz growing in? It looks to be a little porous. And can topaz grow in other types of matrix or stone? I’m in CT. and the pickings for crystals is limited although I heard there was a recent discovery of Amethyst here. Thanks!!

Really amazing! 😮I have never seen crystals come out of the rock all cleaned and cut like that before. I wish you had taped what the children found too.🙂

  24. sPagHeTii on March 2, 2021 at 11:44 pm

No safely glasses, I know a guy I worked with that lost his eyesight in one eye from a chip that came off a hammer. He was only walking by, stopped and looked in that direction. The chip went into the black part and it ran the black iris into the color section. looked melted and from that day on, he could only see blurry fuzzy light that no contact or glasses will ever correct. I’m surprised they don’t make you wear a hardhat at the actual pit area on the claim. Here in Washington if you go into a mining claim and it has a cave its mandatory. I like the finds keep hunting.

  28. Cris Coleman on March 2, 2021 at 11:46 pm

That was nice. Thanks. I wish I had seen this before I went to Topaz Mtn. years ago. I found 1 topaz, which lost its color. Farther to the west I discovered a huge boulder, mayb 4-5 feet in diameter, with hundreds of small clear topaz all over the outside of it. I wish I could remember where that was. We had to go quite away in from the road, then farther up with a 3-wheeler. It was next to a creek bed with myriads of these tiny clear topaz crystals throughout the bed stream. I wish I could get back there with more proper tools, but I’m too far away now. How do you separate the crystals from the surrounding material, btw?

In Aus you know your pretty safe when there’s no bushes! Spiders in the desert – that’s messed up.

  45. QRW Sec on March 3, 2021 at 12:06 am

That’s where it all started 4 years ago. There was a blast during the day and a lot of hammering, and then another one at night with a DJ under the super bright night sky … Opal, sunstone, fire obsidian and agate after. It was such an amazing journey and still going. You’re collecting rocks? No. I’m searching for treasures. 👀👁 My precious! DON’T touch it…😑
