Inside a uranium mine in California, the rocks glow under Ultraviolet light do the the fluorescent radioactive minerals. My new California friends from “Mine operator” took me inside their Uranium mine to see the amazing sights of these glowing rocks.

When I was 3-4 years old, my daycare teacher, Blanca, told me that there were moon rocks and dust in the copy machine because I wanted to copy my hand and she was trying to convince me not to. I did it anyway and this is the stuff that I thought was gonna happen; I thought I was gonna turn green and glow like these rocks haha

This was fascinating, and the physics lesson was succinct and accurate. (Take that, from a physicist.) I think the cancer from the UV is the least of your health worries though!
There are areas in Idaho that provide florescent geodes. We hunt them at night with black lights. It’s fun but a little risky. We’ve had some ankle and knee injuries over the years and one snake bite incident.

Spent days looking for these caves in Planet Crafter (I think that’s the name of it 😆)
Radioactive decay may produce photons, which are light, but the photons are not in the visible portion of the spectrum. So no… radioactive elements do not glow in any color you can see.
There are radioactive elements that impart energy to nearby phosphorescent or fluorescent materials and thus appear to glow.
Actinium is a radioactive metal that emits a pale blue light in a darkened room.
Radon ordinarily exists as a gas, but as it is cooled it becomes phosphorescent yellow, deepening to glowing red as it is chilled below its freezing point.

I’ve seen a few historical displays at Oak Ridge that discuss the fate of the glowing clock face painters… Apparently, the workers would commonly lick their paint brushes, not realizing the dangers of the radioactive glowing paint. Many (most?) developed mouth / tongue cancers.

Seal all clothes in containers, use filter masks dont touch anything dont stay close to a source . General rules when dealing with anything radioactive
Try putting sliced raw potato over your eyes for awhile before you go to sleep (or sooner if your eyes are really burning) It helps sooth the burn and prevent the sandpaper thing. My dad used to weld when I was young and too curious not to watch.
Did you turn out the light while using the XRF? X-ray will cause fluorescence and phosphorescence in various minerals.
Opal also glows under UV light.
Dan in my military days I spent countless hours in strip clubs over seas. Every club had a lot of black lights and I’m fine
next week dan dies from cancer.
