These Pools Help Support Half The People On Earth

What are these electric blue ponds in the middle of the Utah desert? And why do they keep changing color?

Join Derek Muller (Veritasium) as he looks into the weird, bizarre, and seemingly inexplicable images found on Google Earth to discover what on Earth they actually are. It’s a travel vlog, documentary, and science show wrapped into one. It’s Pindrop.

Great video. Does the water pumped underground have any effect on the stability of the earth’s crust?

Getting an odd vibe from this video. Just doesn’t feel like veritasium.

So who drilled the shafts and caverns to enable the water to be pumped in and out if it’s so dangerous?
And if the initial stage of evaporation absorbs alot of solar energy, can that energy be harnessed upon release?

That mine cross section wasn’t airtight whatsoever, and the fire behaved very differently that how I imagine you were trying to demonstrate

Great video. But one comment just at the end caught my attention. It’s an unproven assumption that hunter gatherers spend "ALL day everyday" foraging for food leaving no time for other activities, and that it was only the introduction of permanent agriculture that freed up humans to do other things. In fact foragers may only spend 2-3 hours a day on food collection. Archeological evidence from around the world shows forager cultures engaged in massive and complex construction projects.

Does anyone know how to make car anti freeze/coolant from shampoo?
I saw a programme when I was a kid, where some poor South American did it, but I can’t find how to do it anywhere.

This is a wonderful video. I have been requiring my students in both geology and environmental science classes to watch it ever since it was published. I look forward to more of these "pin drop" style videos being produced! Great work.

All my uncle’s and several of my cousins, on mom’s side, were miners. They made great money but their health dwindled fast. I don’t think any of them lived past 63.

And look at how we’ve destroyed and raped this planet. We should have stayed hunter gatherers

One thing that *MUST* be mentioned is that using only chemical fertilizer isn’t enough; it is only three elements of a symphony of nutrition that we require to be healthy. It matters little if a harvest is bountiful if it is nutritionally empty.

If people actually recycle the humanure, urine, then less mining will be required for Potash. Unlike industrial mining, the recycle of nutrient can be done on small scale to feed a family, villages, or even cities during intense urban farming during time to severe supplies disruption.

you are Anti Naturalist : From your end views in most of videos I found.

I had most of information some 30 years back living in poorest state of India, Orissa,
in a town named Cuttack, which till now a semi urban area corporation for name sake only, just due to mostly 3 Scholarly person infield of science . All left for heavenly abode those spend whole life popularizing science among school children, but they were Naturalists. They are no.1 Vinod Kanoogo (not a even a high school pass out) a freedom fighter, an one man army, compiled 1st encyclopedia in Oriya language [Still the only one. a very bad thing for my language & Province],

no.2 Dr. Gokulanada Mohapatra, Chemistry professor, Oriya Science fiction Writer, founder of "Vigyan Prachar Samiti" (‘Vigyan’ means Science) a society for propaganda of science; still only one in my province
no.2 Dr.Devakanta Mishra professor in physics, Educationst and literary personality, of course member of the above mentioned science society and they published one Journal for popularizing Science "Vigyanalok" literally means ‘Light of Science’ . Still only one Science Journal in my language published till now as i remember
[(((( again a Very Bad thing for my language and province ,
WORSE the Journal has no much circulation
WORSE than Worse: most of the young science & engineering Graduates i meet & had taught privately don’t Know their names including other International Acclaimed Scientists of my province not even names Like Homi Jehangir Bhabha forget about Dr.Meghnad Saha and other)))].
All of them were Naturalists in my view.
    I am 60+

Why didn’t our science teacher just play your videos in high school?

  40. OneBlueFroggy on January 15, 2022 at 1:53 pm

Why no mention that it is a non-renewable resource ? That the copper sulfate is not good for the land, that there is so much potash waste that is a pollutant to air and water, not mentioned here ! Just the good stuff. It’s ok to harm the planet if it means we get to grow things easier and not do all the work ?
    🤔 🇨🇦 ✌️

The budget was so we’ll spent, but the music sometimes felt so off to the channel, just a more subtle editing and this is perfect

Has this been explained? Maybe it was just too much work for not enough profit ?

Yeah but fertilizer is also part of a huge water pollution problem. As is Big Ag. Best to figure out long-term solutions to overpopulation, and to grow more organically.
