The 'white gold rush': Inside a lithium mine, where stores of recyclable energy lie | Nightline

Lithium powers many of our devices as well as electric vehicles. Western states are believed to hold an immense amount of the metal and some say it could help the U.S. reach its climate goals.

The convention on Biological Diversity concluded that: “Every day, up to 150 species are lost.” That could be as much as 10 percent a decade, do you think miners care about that wild flower?

What nobody’s talking about or mentioning Is after all these cars are made by the lithium batteries at some point the batteries are no longer good, Where do the batteries go when they are no longer good ?How do we dispose of them Is there going to be stock piles In the desert with billions of batteries wasting away?

lithium batteries are a nightmare to dispose of I feel like we should wipe out 3/4 of the population of humans and and that will solve all the problems. I’m just saying 😉🤷‍♀️

I stopped listening once they showed Biden speak nonsense and nothing specific or even explaining anything and only political gibberish. One they started talking climate crap I realized this video can’t be trusted and is likely propaganda.

Lithium mining is becoming a big issue in Europe now and not everyone is happy about that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsBwMEQGNiw&t=31s

  18. Manny Echaluce on January 12, 2022 at 11:37 am

You need Cobalt and Nickel also to make a Lithium battery 😀 Poison worst than Oil 😀

  20. Jacked on January 12, 2022 at 11:38 am

Why not actually show a lithium mine instead of these stock photos

  21. MrMrannoying on January 12, 2022 at 11:38 am

I dont like how the Lithium miner at the pools danced around the question about the effect the mine has on the surroundings. He said essentially, this water was deep underground doing nothing, but we are taking it, exposing it and evaporating it away to obtain a useful resource; which had nothing to do with how the process could be leaching salts or other compounds into the environment

  22. B on January 12, 2022 at 11:38 am

The irony is disgusting when you consider how many people think they are being green, while supporting mining and destroying the environment with enormous lithium plants, slaves in the Congo digging their cobalt dead battery chemical leeching, etc.

    It’s not green, it’s evil.

Your huge batteries are horrible. They go bad after a decade, and then have to undergo an insane amount of effort to recycle, and then what?

Nothing is free, batteries have a huge cost.

  23. Brian Eastlick on January 12, 2022 at 11:39 am

Look into lithium mining in these other countries. What a joke. Shame on this media outlet

  24. B on January 12, 2022 at 11:40 am

If you have to mine it, it’s not renewable.

  25. Jordan 3rd Coast on January 12, 2022 at 11:41 am

It’s too bad Biden is clueless…

  26. ygg drasil on January 12, 2022 at 11:42 am

A tiny wild flower and a couple of nesting plovers and the US Lithium and Space industry grinds to a halt. Then studies are undertaken, forms are filled out, multiple levels of government permissions are sought, but still one person is not happy and permits stay frozen for the next 15 years. It’s possible to do ESG mining without destroying the environment, but in terms of legislation efficiency US resembles the Soviet Union in the 1970s in many ways and no wonder most US mining companies go to South America or China or elsewhere in the world to work.

  27. Torchlight light on January 12, 2022 at 11:42 am

For 25 years US sat on the lithium storage in Afghanistan, without harvesting it. Now it gave up to China. Fool

  28. Okie homa on January 12, 2022 at 11:43 am

Dude hung up on a stupid little flower? Really? Message to that idiot is “you are the problem”. We need less of his kind

Why should our inefficiencies destroy us? What kind of business models are we doing? Reduce, Reuse, Rethink, Restore.

  31. rico567 on January 12, 2022 at 11:47 am

It is not “recyclable energy.” It is a mineral. And what it will do is not the path to salvation that its proponents tout.

  32. Marques Loving on January 12, 2022 at 11:48 am

Why isn’t anyone mentioning the largest known reserve of lithium in the world is in Afghanistan?

  33. Alexander quintero on January 12, 2022 at 11:50 am
