To all the dreamers out there, the intrigue of a real-live quest was pure magic! Dive into our last hunt for the gold before it was found! A series of too coincidental occurrences led us to believe we were on the right track. After all, the chase practically came to us before we even began. what a great video super cute couple
Now that Forrest has passed on, his "special place in the mountains north of Santa Fe" should be revealed. If you look at the Vallecitos Mountain Retreat website at: https://www.vallecitos.org/ ,and look at the photos (select Why Vallecitos, then Photo Gallery), you will see some hints that were mentioned by Forrest, such as: some cast bronze bells similar to those Forrest made and hid, a photo of the Vallecitos Rio, the "water high" in the poem, and "the poem leads to the end of my rainbow" (see photo of a large rainbow ending near where the treasure was hidden, as Forrest wrote on the inner jacket flap of The Thrill of the Chase). Using Google Maps, look at the area south of the Vallecitos ranch house where you will find a large rock wheel, as in "Try the wheel." https://www.dropbox.com/s/yw1sdttynrfxcnf/2%20Vallecitos%20Mountain%20Retreat-%20Try%20the%20Wheel.jpg?dl=0 – – – – The Google Maps coordinates for the Blaze (large painted black "nn" (for Fenn) on the top of a big white boulder) are : 36.6355, -106.2105 – – – – – –
You have no idea just how close you were to that treasure chest…imo! But Colorado has over 500 million in other treasures. Buy a couple of high end metal detectors, a couple of Garrott Pro pointers and go have fun. Go gold mining too. Love, Dawna
Pretty nice.
The Blackbeard videos I was told are photo shopped. I know it was cropped but other then that I am no expert. It was an interesting channel. Sorry if it is not real but worth a look for you to decide I think.

Don’t think it was on private property. Lawsuits if someone gets hurt or fines for trespassing. I think he hid it on public lands such as BLM land. Just an opinion from an armchair quarterback. Never had a chance to search. Was going out to Montana in August. Key word " Was "…lol….Cool video. Good luck…!!
Wonderful video. When I read that the treasure had been, shortly after you left for your adventure, I felt sad for you and wondered how you would react when you found out. Now I know.

About the Vallecitos Mountain Retreat, that "special place in the forest north of Santa Fe": Here is a quote from an article in the New Mexico Magazine in 2015 by Don J Usner: ". . . . .While Mudd was writing and working at the ranch [now the Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center] and running his environmental organization. he met the man who would ultimately transform the ranch into a retreat center. Mudd recalls that Grove Burnett, a newly minted environmental lawyer, simply walked into his office in 1971 and offered to help Mudd’s organization. Mudd hired him, and Burnett, along with his wife at the time, Linda Velarde, began to spend time at the ranch with their two children. It became a haven for both families. – – – – – When in 1992, Mudd found himself in financial difficulties, he sold the ranch to Burnett and Velarde and TWO FRIENDS (philanthropists who wanted to REMAIN ANONYMOUS), who created a nonprofit corporation, assembled a board of directors, and set out to realize their vision for the property. – – – – – "We were clear from the beginning that we wanted to make a refuge and retreat center for meditation", says Burnett, the founding teacher at the Vallecitos Mountain Retreat, as it was initially called. "Basically, we wanted to make it a refuge for people, too.." – – – – Burnett says that as the board began to formulate a plan, they kept coming back to the words of Henry David Thoreau, who in 1854 wrote, "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." – – – – "Those words were the cornerstone of our philosophy", Burnett says. "We wanted to create a sanctuary for people to take refuge. It was as simple as that. That was our guiding principle, and it has remained so for the last 25 years." – – – – In 1994 the first retreat, for environmental leaders from around the country, was led by the renowned mediation teacher, Joseph Goldstein, who was also on the founding board of directors. It was Goldstein who recommended that the board steer clear of making Vallecitos a Buddhist center. They heeded his counsel, and the refuge remains rooted in teaching dharma mediation– but as secular, mindfulness training." https://www.vallecitos.org/ – – – – –
Sorry. Not even close. Be looking for a book called…The solve.
For those who must have the answers, here is the one-picture solution:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6pbe4edgs96g4j/Using%20the%20Poem%20as%20Map.jpg?dl=0
First you had to find the “right” triangle as shown on the front cover of Too Far to Walk. This was found by drawing lines on Google Maps between the 4 map points given in the poem: Waters Canyon, CO; Marvel, CO (starry cant, with Marvel, gaze); Angel Fire, NM (blaze#1), and Casa Marron, NM (home of Brown in Spanish). The 4th point, Marvel, Colorado, falls on the hypotenuse line from Waters Canyon to Angel Fire and confirms that this is the right triangle and the right solution.
Second, you cut out the poem and placed it as directed in Stanza 2 of the poem, with top right corner placed (“Begin it) on the CO/NM border, and the poem body then turned south toward the Rio Grande Canyon (“canyon down”), then the lower left corner of the poem put in below Casa Marron.
The blaze#2 in the poem then points to coordinates 36.6355, -106.2105
The chest was in New Mexico in the Carson National Forest. Two of the important clues are in Colorado, one clue location is on the CO/NM border, and three clues are in New Mexico. The remaining 3 clues are not really needed but serve as fillers and padding to make the poem the right length. It was important to keep the poem the same size and shape as the original, so the poem could be used as a map. The clue locations ON LAND in the real world are not close together, are not consecutive, not contiguous, and not chronological.
You really did not have to find where warm waters halt first (Waters because Waters Canyon was named after Mrs. Waters who lived there in the early days). Finding warm waters first turned out to be misleading, because if you started with home of Brown, you could use the poem-as-map and the edge of the right triangle to reverse-engineer and determine where warm waters halted. The blaze#3 was not visible with Google Maps until 2016, when the resolution increased enough to see it. You can still see blaze#3 at: 36.6355, -106,2105. – – – —
I had two solves for Wyoming and was planning on going later this summer…But, it will not be happening now. However, I’d love to eventually one day take a pilgrimage to where it was found…If they will reveal its location.
