Gary Holt takes us on a tour of his mining claims that is supposed to be the fabulously rich lost Spanish mine area called the Josephine De Martinique. Which is supposed to have 240 cargoes of gold bars and 650 cargoes of silver bars inside the mine, behind a large wooden door that has been caved in on. plus down at the 700 foot level there is supposed to be huge gold nuggets and slabs of virgin silver. A cargoes weight by Spanish standards at the time was two hundred and fifty pounds by our weight, so two hundred and forty cargoes times 250 pounds each is sixty thousand pounds of gold..Assuming, as reported latter in 1898 by William Bird, in the Tribune Herald Independent, the ore contained free gold. It therefore, when transferred to bars would be almost pure gold. Since Gold is over fourteen hundred dollars a troy ounce today, twelve times fourteen hundred dollars is $16,800.00 a pound. Sixty thousand pounds times $16,800 a pound is one billion eight million dollars mined in a year just for the gold in one mine? How many mines at Hoyt’s peak could produce that today. From U.S.Marshal Kimball’s report in the same mentioned newspaper, he testified that he captured a Spanish miner by the name of San Jose Pueblo that mined it in 1842 and confided to him they took all the gold his party of forty could carry from the one mine. They are absolutely Correct, There are 4 major routes the Spanish used to haul the Gold out of the Uinta Mountains, Main haulage way was the Green River by small boats, other main haulage came from Red Rock Canyon Area across Antelope Flats, Others Spider-ed out to above Vernal and Roosevelt areas but all lead back to points to the Green River. One trail came out of the West through Spanish Fork Canyon to Summit along the North Rim to Nine Mile Canyon to the Golden Stairway at the bottom of that Canyon is Forge in the River that stopped Larger boats from going up the River, The Forge was the Major Loading point and to ship down River onto the Colorado River and back to the Ocean with only a few over land diversion points.
I’ll be there with some heavy duty home made tech and we’re gettin in there in 2020.

New news, we have discovered a huge white quartz deposit on the ceiling of the pueblo shaft with dirty quartz in it indicating that wire gold should be in it also. The shaft is really a cave mine. We will be giving tours to all those interested next spring when we build a deck at the base of the ladder and install lighting so we can inspect every square inch of the mine, since no one has ever reported the quartz deposit to my knowledge. Who knows, with flood lamps everywhere what may come to light. We have a video of the mine excursion and the deposit for your inspection. I heard a story recently of Spanish silver bars being dug up near me here on the central coast of California. Haven’t found anything yet 😉

Love this on location video, Terry. Thanks to Gary for wanting to share his knowledge, so it’s not lost forever. What an Adventure for those young men to be a part of. The fossil mentioned at fifteen : nineteen was a good catch because it came from inside the cave. Looks to be a nest of snakes. Most often you will see fossilized bats of various sizes in the caves and mines. Hope you do more vids on the mines in that area, Terry. : )
