I worked in a movie theater when this movie came out, I had the 3D duty so I had to stay in the theater and collect the glasses after wards. I was forced to endure this movie well over 200 times from the total hrs I spent doing that particular shift. When I die God and I are gonna need a sit down to discuss that inhumane torture wouldn’t happen at Guantanamo bay.
The best part about that earthbender scene is the pebble doesn’t even come from the 10 dudes tapdancing, it’s summoned by the sole guy on the side and they were actually doing the earth wall. It’s just shot and edited so poorly it ends up looking like they’re moving the rock, the film that keeps on giving

My biggest complaint about the movie (among many, many complaints) is that they fundamentally misunderstood bending, on a metaphysical level. Shlamala somehow thought that bending involved doing an interpretive dance in such a way that it activated a spell; like entering the right sequences in Dance Dance Revolution. Bending, properly conceived of, is a direct interaction with the physics of the world through motion and will, and not some ambulatory incantation of spastic woo-woo.

ngl the undertones of the film was also kinda fucked up. The only east asians in the film are the southern water tribe and the earth kingdom. Both of which are for some reason backwater and poor. You go to the northern water tribe where its all well built and organized and suddenly water tribe people are white now. The earth kingdom town in the film is supposed to be an actual town with intelligent people in the animation, but in the film they live in dirt hovels and sell out the avatar for money. And for some reason these earth kingdom Neanderthals needed the avatar to tell them that the earth they stand on is earth. The white savior trope in the film was ridiculous. The only non white people in the film that have anything resembling civilization are the fire nation- played by indians. Thanks Shyamalan. Oh, and the original traditional chinese text in Avatar is replaced with random squiggles. Why is that even a thing?

Me and my late uncle saw this movie when it was in theatres and we were just shocked with how bad it was. When we met with my mom for dinner someplace later on, my uncle just went on and on about how bad the movie was and the bullshit changes they made in it compared to the show. That was also the only time we saw the movie too.
I think Shyamalan made the movie awful on purpose. I don’t know if I am the first one to say it but from the mispronunciation of the characters names to showing the whole series within 2 hours makes me thing something is fishy about the movie.
This and the Eragon movie are hands down the biggest disappointments of my childhood
Tbh I wouldn’t mind a live action version of the show made by people who at least watched a few seconds of the show

i remember going back and watching it like 4 years ago and it sucked so bad i saw it when i was rly little and thought it was awesome so that was shitty but i started watching the show again just started s3 and im glad to say its just as good as when i was a kid
I think M. Night should have been black listed for this fucking movie alone. As a film on it’s own, it is supremely stupid and cringey. As an adaptation it is unbelievably insulting and embarrassing.

I feel like a huge mistake they made with this movie that not many people talk about is how in the original show, all of the techniques were borrowed from actual martial arts. In this movie they’re literally just waving their arms around like monkeys.
