The Largest Gold And Copper Deposit In The World | Super Structures | Spark

Mine- At 14,000 feet, in the remote jungles of New Guinea is the largest gold and copper deposit in the world. Getting to that deposit and building a profitable mine was one of the biggest engineering challenges ever. In 1975 an American mining company took up the challenge and using the most sophisticated technology available, conquered the jungle and built the Grasberg Mine!

Geology knows no political boundaries? What a corky arrogance.Who set that rule ? The owners of the resources or white explorers ?

Yar great engineering BUT the locals have been dislocated murdered bashed jailed no royalties for them. Every one grew rich except the locals whose rivers are now destroyed, land destroyed…not good fellas!

  14. King Anufemeki on April 12, 2022 at 7:58 am

You whites took $50 billion from that land and if I may ask, what did you give back to the indigenous owners ?

  15. Cinema Ipswich on April 12, 2022 at 8:00 am

My prayers are for the hundreds of native people who were MURDERED by security forces just so that rape of this once beautiful, unpolluted wilderness paid well for the corrupt elites.

The way you Caucasians go about destroying people’s land and stealing minerals without giving back to the owners baffles me. Could black people go to European or America to mine ? Who authorised the mining and was the gains shared with the indigenous owners? Same goes to the crude oil and other minerals stolen all over Africa.

Great geological and engineering endeavor, likely a big pox on earth. Destroy tropical jungles, vital to life, to extract materials to fuel modern obsessions for devices and items that simply provide fleeting satisfaction.

  39. Fritz Lewis on April 12, 2022 at 8:30 am

How admirable, all the superficial compliments from you all white people.

This is thievery on the highest level I never asked if you’re in denial.

As a white man, is it black/ negro people that I saw as the indigenous?!!

So the dutch stole the land initially, then gave it to the Indonesian so they can suppress the locals and, intern give it straight back to us white people so we could steal the natural resource or the blacks; all for profit & self aggrandizing.

  40. Jo-jo Can on April 12, 2022 at 8:32 am

good example on how the corporation is making billions $$$$$ for themselves and pennies to the locals labour force and paid to taxes to the local government.

Stealing the heart from Papua, while her people are persecuted by Indonesia…
    This isn’t impressive, it’s theft.

  42. Peter Signorini on April 12, 2022 at 8:33 am

Irian Jaya is a land under theft. The Indonesians have stolen this land from the Irianese peoples who are presently being crushed under the foot of Java, held in a repressive state of human rights abuse. The minerals from this mining operation are the very worst of blood-metals, and the mine should be blown up or shut down completely until the Irianese people are given their independence.

I am ashamed that another Filipino fools other people again and earn money in an improper way .
Here in the Philippines, thieves are easily forgiven and even elected to high position.
    It’s so embarrassing. 😔

  49. Randy Jacobson on April 12, 2022 at 8:40 am

On the one hand they say how incredibly beautiful the country is and how great the natves are, on the other they destroy and pollute the country and exploit and subjugate the indigenious peoples.
