The hunt for Forrest Fenn's $2 million hidden treasure

The hunt for Forrest Fenn's $2 million hidden treasure

The secret is hidden in a poem that starts like this: “Begin it where warm waters halt.”

Zack wrote an entire feature filled with maps, illustrated clues, and even more video. You can read and watch here: http://www.vox.com/a/fenn-treasure-hunt-map

Sometime between 2009 and 2010 an 80 year old man by the name of Forrest Fenn trekked out into the Rocky Mountains and hid a bronze chest filled with over $2 million dollars worth of treasure. The secret to the location of the treasure is contained within a six stanza poem. Forrest Fenn’s treasure, as it’s come to be known, has captivated men, women, and children around the country and world and has lured many people to the Rocky Mountains in the hopes that they’ll find the gold.

So based on Forrest Fenn’s current age, he would have been appx 79 years old at the time he trekked 42 EXTRA pounds of stuff out into the Rocky Mountains. By himself? Hummm, I wonder… He was either extremely fit for an older guy who had a battle with cancer, to carry that much weight, or he had an accomplice(s) who had assisted him and knew the secret location as well. Either way, very impressive. Impressive if he did it all alone himself, and equally impressive if there was another person(s) who assisted and knew of the location, and was able to keep such a hugh secret as well.

Before the treasure has been found (today’s news), how did they know that someone was within 200 feet (11:00) from the actual location? No one knew the actual location except Fenn. Did Fenn monitor the search effort?

Conman Fenn is looking for a safe passage out of his hoax. He knows that lawsuits loom over his con and he is groping around for a way out.

  37. Vox on January 6, 2021 at 8:17 pm

UPDATE: According to Forrest Fenn, the treasure has been found!

"It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago. I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot. I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries."

I would do something like this if I was a billionaire. Put like 5 million in gold and have people search for it.

  41. Angelita Becerra on January 6, 2021 at 8:25 pm

The question isn’t "how much can a 80 year old man do" but "how much can this specific 80 year old man do"?

  42. Jbugs on January 6, 2021 at 8:30 pm

Is this what the one piece crew feel like

  43. Steven Waterfielkd on January 6, 2021 at 8:30 pm

I thought about looking for it when I made my trip out West visiting historic place, but when I found about 30 places that could have been considered the Home Of Brown I decided it was just too vague and someone would just have to get very lucky to stumble upon the right trail.

  44. savagedragon79 on January 6, 2021 at 8:30 pm

I wonder if this video helped the person that found it.

  45. bezbeanz Jett on January 6, 2021 at 8:31 pm

    Found it

  46. TWSTF 8 on January 6, 2021 at 8:32 pm

"Where a 79 year old man could carry out bury a 45 pound treasure chest."

Besides the poem, which someone has evidently deciphered, that was the most important clue leading them to the treasure.

A clue that many people have CLEARLY overlooked lol which is why an estimated four people have died in the attempt. There was never any reason whatsoever to go too far off the beaten path.

Or spelunk through caverns and over cliffs, putting lives at risk when a little common sense is enough to realize it would only ever be hidden where an elderly man would be capable of safely accessing.

Edit; I’m glad somebody finally found it, it means the real treasure WASN’T just the friends we made along the way. 🤣

Clue one. Lines 1-4. The Chapel of Light in Montezuma NM. Associated with the School.
Lines 4-8 has 4 clues. Where warm waters halt is across the creek from the School. There is a hot spring. The path leading to the spot descends, opposite of the river itself. The whole area is less than a 1/4 mile worth of walking. Home of Brown refers to the Outlaw Brown from Dodge City, At the Hot Springs is an old jail cell.
Lines 9-12. Across the old bridge is a forest. You are about 100 yards or so away. The heavy loads and water high refer to the loch or small little damns in the creek.
Lines 13-16, The Blaze is a fire pit. It’s got a stack of Rocks. I went to dig up the pit. I got about 18 in when I broke the shovel and left it in an X. I knew it might be in the rocks but couldn’t bring myself to tear it all down. That and I had a real bad feeling about that necklace.
Lines 17-20. Tired and weak. Building the fire pit.
Lines 21-24. In the Woods. Literally.
If you look at the Map, the outline looks just like how an archaeologists hole would look if you dug it out. Montezuma is in the little spot at the bottom of the hole. Just below where you’d think it would be.
