I really hate to tell you Mr Know-it-all, I worked there till I couldn’t stand it anymore and went to work in a mine to the south.and before that I worked at Triton coal company(the company that Arch claimed the tons from) Let me guess, you operate a desk for a living and have no idea how things really work.
They’ll have to increase production at the Black Thunder Mine in order to keep the batteries of all those ‘electric cars’ charged and on the road ! There’s irony for you.

My grandfather’s farm in Illinois was strip mined for coal. The land today is ok for grazing cattle, but the 6feet of unbelievable top soil that produced corn or soy beans is gone. My in thousands of years it could come back. Strip mining for coal was bad idea on productive farm land that could feed people for thousands of years. The coal mined there is a long gone.

I was doing New Miner Training at the Black Thunder Mine the day the first train load of coal left the mine. There were less than 200 people working there at the time. It is amazing to see how much it has grown and to see that the mine management’s commitment to safety is still as strong as it ever was. David Stradley
