This video was helpful to me. I rock hound in southern WV, and most of what i find is bluish- gray glossy types of ( what i think is ) chert. I’m just beginning to learn how to identify it with more accuracy. Thank you Nate for taking some time to explain the origins of the details! You are much appreciated!

Thank you much for your videos and the time you take out of your day to share them with us.
As much as I love what you are looking for (rocks and minerals), I truly appreciate the fact that you stop and look up from the ground to take in nature in all its glory. I find myself doing that often. When I am on a beach I find myself just watching the waves and the way the sun plays on the water.

  20. Candy Warmuth on February 19, 2023 at 3:11 pm

Chalcedony has lines much like the clear white in those layers on the beach. Which is agate. Isn’t it all silica just formed under different conditions?

  21. Kerin Holmstrom on February 19, 2023 at 3:12 pm

That "ooze" as you call it, is also called "marine snow".

  22. Lisa Roche on February 19, 2023 at 3:13 pm

Whew, needed that! All the pretty colors and some knowledge to go with it. Thank you for making my day. Sending lots of love and prayers to you and your awesome family. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ™

Talk about blessed, just enough rain that you don’t need a squirt bottle. Love the stones with possibilities of beautiful cuts.

  27. Savage Squirrel on February 19, 2023 at 3:17 pm

  35. KneeDeep In Bluegrass on February 19, 2023 at 3:24 pm

You had me confused with your pronunciation if "siliceous", lol.

I kept hearing "salacious". While I get excited about rocks, I don’t get turned on by them in THAT way.
Similar sounding, but completely different definitions.
Anyway, now when I hear you pronounce it, I will know which definition you mean, even though you say the other word.
