i went to see a production of in the heights at a high school and when she said "what do i do with this winning ticket?" my mom and i both gasped at the same time
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
Calor… calor… calor…
Calor… calor… calor…
Ay Mamá!
The summer’s hottest day!
Paciencia y fe! Paciencia y fe!
Ay, carajo, it’s hot!
But that’s okay!
Mamá would say, “Paciencia y fe!”
It was hotter at home in La Vibora
The Washington Heights of Havana!
A crowded city of faces the same as mine!
Back as a child in La Vibora
I chased the birds in the plaza
Praying, Mamá, you would find work
Combing the stars in the sky for some sort of sign!
Ay, Mamá, so many stars in Cuba…
En Nueva York we can’t see beyond our streetlights…
To reach the roof you gotta bribe the supa…
Ain’t no Cassiopeia in Washington Heights…
But ain’t no food in La Vibora…
I remember nights, anger in the streets, hunger at the windows
Women folding clothes, playing with my friends in the summer rain…
Mamá needs a job, Mamá says we’re poor, one day you say, “Vamos a Nueva York…”
I’m playing Abuela Claudia in my high school’s production of In The Heights and I’m really excited! This is one of my favorite songs from this musical!

And Nueva York was far
But Nueva York had work and so we came…
And now, I’m wide awake
A million years too late
I talk to you, imagining what you’d do
Remembering what we went through
Nueva York! Ay Mamá!
It wasn’t like today, you’d say
“Paciencia y fe
[NEW YORKERS]
Paciencia y fe
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
Paciencia y fe.”
[NEW YORKERS]
Paciencia y—
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
Fresh off the boat in America
Freezing in early December
A crowded city in Nineteen Forty-Three!
Learning the ropes in America
In español, I remember
Dancing with Mayor La Guardia
All of society welcoming mami and me!
Ha!
[EMPLOYERS]
You better clean this mess!
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
Paciencia y fe…
[EMPLOYERS]
You better learn inglés!
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
Paciencia y fe…
[EMPLOYERS]
You better not be late…
You better pull your weight…
Are you better off than you were with the birds of La Vibora?
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
Sharing double beds, trying to catch a break, struggling with English
Listening to friends, finally got a job working as a maid
So we cleaned some homes, polishing with pride
Scrubbing the whole of the Upper East Side
The days into weeks, the weeks into years, and here I stayed
[NEW YORKERS]
Paciencia y fe…
Paciencia y fe…
Paciencia y fe…
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
And as I feed these birds
My hands begin to shake
And as I say these words
My heart’s about to break
And ay Mamá
What do you do when
Your dreams come true?
I’ve spent my life
Inheriting
Dreams from you.
[NEW YORKERS]
Ooh
Ooh, ooh
And ay Mamá!
And ay Mamá
Aah, aah!
[ABUELA CLAUDIA]
What do I do with this winning ticket?
What can I do but pray?
I buy my loaf of bread
Continue with my day
And see you in my head
Imagining what you’d say
The birds, they fly away
Do they fly to La Vibora?
This song makes me so thankful for my great grandparents. They sacrificed their lives for me and my family to have a better life. I can’t even imagine what it must of been like for them! I just… wish I could ask them myself…how it was. How it feels…to be a hero. For my grandparents! My parents! For me!
My Grandpa on my dad’s Side came to America from Mexico! He and my Nana Socorro raised my dad, uncle and two aunts in East LA. So I can relate to the song in terms of family history. I’m glad Olga Meredez is reprising Claudia in the movie.
My field trip going to see this musical was the best
i went to see a production of in the heights at a high school and when she said "what do i do with this winning ticket?" my mom and i both gasped at the same time
"what do i do with this winning ticket?"
*dramatic gasp from audience*
*someone faints*
Y’all stfu about Hamilton they have nothing to do with eachother
This album is unprofessional. At the end of this song you can hear so much noise and someone talking. They never edited it out.

"I know Abuela’s never really gonna win the lottery"
I hate these fucking captions, plz ANYONE make a lyric video
“A million years late.” Like how I am for this musical. (Literally 9 years late)
You couldn’t just type the real name?
I came here from Hamilton don’t kill me 😂
I remember seeing this in Houston a few years ago and this was the best preformed song. Her range was incredible. She absolutely killed it.
Definitely the loveliest song of the show. Perhaps it’s the best one.
96k? Pay Lin to get this show for a reunion, and if I have left over bribe people for a Ham ticket.
Love this!
Is anyone here after hearing about the movie adaptation?
Why did you put Patience & Faith instead of Paciencia y Fe?Isn’t it called Paciencia y Fe or did you not know how to spell it so put it in English?
Paciencia y Fe
AY caraJO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is such an underrated song…
When you wind up here because of Hamilton, and are slowly becoming obsessed with ANOTHER musical….
"I’m sorry I don’t speak italian"
Uhm… Patience and Faith I don’t know her
go watch why mosquitos buzz promo
3:30 😍😍😍 3:08
great musical…awesome song!
I think this song is perfect: the story, the voice, the arrangement and, of course, the melody. This lady is amazing.
I’m playing Abuela Claudia in my high school’s production of In The Heights and I’m really excited! This is one of my favorite songs from this musical!
"What do I do with this winning ticket…?"

I legit gasped when Abuela said she won the lottery
since when did they change the title to english?

This song is beautiful. That’s all I have to say.
absolutely love this songgg! and I’m so honoured to be playing Abuela, can’t wait to perform this! 😁💖
"What can I do with this winning ticket?"
*le gasp*
I left my country for work more than a year ago. This song hits harder now.
I love the ensemble in the background of this song!! “You better clean this mess! You better learn ingles!! You better pull your weight!”
Thinking about making an Animatic of this song…..Kill me
My Grandpa on my dad’s Side came to America from Mexico! He and my Nana Socorro raised my dad, uncle and two aunts in East LA. So I can relate to the song in terms of family history. I’m glad Olga Meredez is reprising Claudia in the movie.
This song reminds me a little bit of the unofficial Hamilton track Congratulations in terms of tone
This tune reminds me of "Burn" in places.
Hey, I can like both this and Hamilton, can’t I?
I still hear me alone awhile had join no one. Let’s been completed find similar
sorry but could you please put Paciencia Y Fe
Combing the stars in the sky for some sort of sign, and when you were mine, the world seemed to burn …
