New Mexico Mines // Jim Crow // Carlisle // Summit

This adventure takes us to Grant County, New Mexico. We were privileged enough to have a personal tour by the owner of the Jim Crow mine. He was a wealth of information about geology and mining, and he had plenty of colorful stories about the history of the mines. He doesn’t own the Carlisle Mine, but his friend does so he was gracious enough to share that with us too. As a rock nerd, I could have stayed there for days, it was a bit overwhelming to be honest.

All music was downloaded from YouTube’s music library.

Thanks for the video! I appreciate you reaching out to the owner for a personal tour – he’s a great guy and a very experienced miner. We’ve worked with him on the Jim Crow and another mine, and are collaborating on reopening work. I have a video on my channel taken underground at the Crow when it was operating in 2019.

Remember that the MRDS/TheDiggings/Western Mining History information is often several decades old. There are miles of development at the Summit Mine from the 2008-2014 period when it most recently operated. The 1000′ number is probably from the 70s. The Carlisle was last worked in the 1990s (by Royal Minerals, I believe). The flooded decline you explored was driven around then using rubber-tire equipment.
