I have read a couple other versions of this story, and find it interesting. This version has details that were not in the others, and I doubt the authenticity of. These 3 men would not have been likely to give out information to help others find what they wanted to keep. Also, I have been in the area a bit, and north of dead mans camp is flat desert. In what I consider to be a more realistic version, they were starting to go over a pass to Westcliff/Silvercliff when the blizzard hit. This would have put them in terrain more likely to have a cave such as is described here.

There is another entrance that attaches to several caverns,I know this As a fact.. I am coming back in the spring, I personally sealed the other two entrances, then contacting the government to receive their share only after I contact the native Americans first.whi will win that battle??? Lots more gold..

A few years ago I was working a reconstruction gig at the local hospital in the area and passed by the Deadman camp everyday to and from 2ork . Never once did i stop and explore there. I Always either explored/rock hounded Jasper, the lost burro, crystal hill or the wagon trail areas. Wagon trail being my favorite, because once i got lost and found a road leading to the old 1st dump and rifle range….looks like we’ll be spending the fall down there. Wonder if my cabin would be available. Ooops sorry, i was think typing out loud again…..

This sounds similar to the music pass story of a Spanish mine with smelted gold and skeletons

I’ve read about this story as well, there’s no way it is N of that camp if they ended up going east of that mountain range through the wet mountain valley. In the mountains southeast of crestone would be my guess.

I’m older than you, and a native, as well as a native of Colo. You need to quit posting fables you know nothing about!
