Modern Mining – How Eagle Mine produces nickel and copper

This video will take you step-by-step through Eagle’s mining process. In addition, the video explains the techniques we use to find nickel and copper.

About us:
Eagle Mine is a nickel-copper mine located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The underground mine is expected to produce 360 million pounds of nickel, 295 million pounds of copper and small amounts of other metals over its estimated eight year mine life. Eagle Mine is owned and operated by Lundin Mining Corporation.

You fuckin idiots ruined a pristine wilderness for a dollar and everyone reading this doesn’t even know that a foreign entity owns this company and they won’t tell you that sulfide mining is dangerous ….makes me wanna puke

Follow the full presentation of the mine, as we agreed.

Do not forget that we have decree of Lavra and therefore we are not selling a deposit, but a mine.

I remember that our mine has surface veins of nickel, a rare thing all over the world. The ore is already present from only 2 meters, when in most mines and deposits this only occurs between 20:30 meters deep, which enables an extraction economy that reaches up to 35% in the final cost.

It is important to remember that there is no occurrence of copper and cobalt associated with nickel, a fact that also demonstrates high industrial quality of the ore to be extracted.

In the pictures, what you see in green, or whitish, is already nickel in raw state. In one of the photos, notice that the tip of my shoe appears and you will see that the mineral is on the ground.

There is no environmental liability because there is no native vegetation cover in the area. Environmental licensing may only be required by those who will explore.

Very interesting! I had no idea that it had that many steps! Very helpful also for my research.

Very informative and visually appealing overall, but unfortunately the thing I’ll never forget is the dinosaur from 1 billion years ago. Maybe in a sequel, Raquel Welch could be riding it? (Sorry, I couldn’t help my snarky self.)

In the North American the biggest mining discovery is Voisey Bay, Labrador discovery of Nickel. Diamond Fields stock went from .30 cents to $156 a share and was bought by INCO/VALE for $4 billion! The mine has operated for 15 years and VALE is now spending $1.7 billion to access (2) deeper deposits. This small Canadian mining company may have just discovered something bigger? You be the judge …here is the report that compares Voisey Bay to Pecor’s Anomaly in Ontario Canada.  https://www.slideshare.net/stockshaman/montoro-serpent-river-ontario-ni-cu-pge-project-2d-geotewch-ztem-survey-report-sept2018

this is a very good and informative video. i know a lot more on how mining works. yet i have one question if you find any other minerals what do you do with them. do leave them or do you take it and do something with it.

I watched this with my 6 year old son in the UK – and he was fascinated. Thank you. He did however, have one question – how did the trucks get to the lower level after the deployment of explosives?

No offence, but that’s nothing compared to what the Springhill coal mine was in the 1950’s.  It’s slope was 14,200 feet long, with a vertical depth of 4,000 feet.  At the time, it was the deepest coal mine in North America.  Unfortunately, it was closed down due to some major disasters.

This is an amazing video showing what the mining and mineral processing process is like! Also, great to hear the part about reclamation, it is an integral part of the mining process. If anyone wants to learn more about the environmental stewardship efforts of the mining industry, such as what happens after a mine closes, come on by to our channel for some entertaining and educational videos!

mined environment can’t never ever be restored to its "original condition" prior mining. Mining is NOT environmental friendly.

  40. Mina Noble on November 26, 2020 at 10:07 pm

what is that mining process called?

  41. Gea on November 26, 2020 at 10:08 pm

Good! But, you forgot to mention the contamination and damage mining does to the ecosystem.
