In this episode we head down to Mexico to better understand the early history of mining in the New World. We visit Mexico City where a powerful culture was conquered and their gold and silver looted. We meander the narrow streets of some 16th century mining towns and explore some of the oldest and richest silver mines ever discovered in Colonial Mexico. Get ready to go south of the border and deep underground into the first silver mines in the New World!
My parents grew up in rural villages near Sultepec Mexico, a beautiful colonial village in Mexico state. My moms village is called San Nicolas del Cobre (copper). She said there are abandoned mines in her village and that as children they would go into the mines for fun. I understand they mined for silver here too. It’s quite interesting because I can trace my ancestry to these miners. My ancestry DNA results came out as 48% Indigenous Mexican, 32% Spanish 14% Portuguese.
This was fun – great footage!
Is this in 2020? I don’t see any masks.
