Good riddance to cfl bulbs and t-stats with mercury, which is highly toxic and end up in landfills.

Mercury? They use sodium metal these days as the heat transfer in nuclear pants (but not all of them). I think water is more common.

    GREAT FOOTAGE!

@mrsahonima it has been back and forth for years, I find it interesting that in a time where most government agency’s are scrambling to stay afloat, they finally make idra a superfund. Oh how I hate the EPA.

Mercury can also be used for antigravity…

  6. rene kenshin on April 16, 2021 at 9:19 pm

MERCURY yeah is one of the most toxic substance on earth -.-

@vmelkon Very few use sodium. Vast majority uses water (regular or heavy).

thats where all metals come from

  19. madjimms on April 16, 2021 at 9:43 pm

    Mercury isn’t a carcinogen… its a neuro toxin however.

  20. philjquitt on April 16, 2021 at 9:44 pm

The naivety of the fifties. The Obama sponsored mercury export ban just signed into law will prevent USA from exporting mercury. So, all the recycled mercury from USA industries will stay in USA.

  21. Srecko Paskvale on April 16, 2021 at 9:45 pm

The correct name is New Idria, named after the world’s 2nd largest Hg mine in Idria, Slovenia (Europe)

  22. Jacob Ertel on April 16, 2021 at 9:49 pm

How do they make red mercury with Cinnabar? I could read about it and probably will, a video would be exquisite though.

Aluminum is a toxic metal had used to make Aircrafts.

Great historical document-thanks for posting this. By the way: New Idria, abandoned for decades now, has recently been designated an EPA Superfund site.

  26. philjquitt on April 16, 2021 at 9:55 pm

Short answer to your two questions is …..What is the definition of "toxic"?
Longer answer…..the "species" of mercury as they are often called, are; 1) metal mercury or quicksilver , 2) inorganic mercury, and 3) organic mercury. And yes, all three are officially classed as highly toxic. Dimethyl mercury is "super toxic" – one drop went through a rubber glove and killed professor Wetterhahn. One drop in the metal form killed two elderly people who vaporized it accidentally.

lol how can you make a metal from a large bunch of hard cement rocks lol

  28. bigpurple100 on April 16, 2021 at 9:57 pm

I always wondered about this. what a great upload thanks buddy 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  29. rene kenshin on April 16, 2021 at 9:57 pm

Mercury is highly toxic and carcinogenic which is very very bad for health -_-

  30. DesertTripper on April 16, 2021 at 9:58 pm

Sadly, the roof of the mill has collapsed. When I went to visit the area in 2003, it was still intact.

how does a mercury comes from a rock

  33. philjquitt on April 16, 2021 at 10:02 pm

It won’t help your trade deficit. And frankly, who cares about that. Mercury is a global pollutant, toxic in all forms. In Japan, they are currently eating mercury contaminated dolphin meat.

  34. GSRJosh33 on April 16, 2021 at 10:04 pm

1944 a Nazi sub "U-859" carrying 34 tons of this substance was found on the ocean floor. At the time the main known uses were thermometers and thermostats. So why did Hitler need this metal? To create and anti-gravity machine that would help them turn the war. Well it went down to late and the info was found by the US through interagation. U-859 Look it up!

Toxic Metals like Lead and Mercury Are Found in Paint Pencils Batteries. Mercury is Found in Thermometer and Light Bulbs and Fireworks. If Mercury Inhailed Take The person to the Fresh Air. If Mercury is swallowed give a Person Egg Whites and Milk.

  37. k gonzales on April 16, 2021 at 10:06 pm

    i’m talking about mercury

  38. p caetano on April 16, 2021 at 10:07 pm

more than likely the people there died from all of the mercury exposure . more than likely died from Lung and Kidney issues years later also immediately have brain issues lack of concentration , typical mercury exposure , today if that mine was running it would need protective gear for the workers and production buildings.

Back when California was a decent state.

  40. Dan K on April 16, 2021 at 10:10 pm

Still plenty of cinnabar but the govt and people have left. The toxins haven’t.

  41. Caden Fairholm on April 16, 2021 at 10:10 pm

Just imagine working there. It would be so interesting.

  42. CaptainChips on April 16, 2021 at 10:11 pm

mercury is a metal, dude. It’s the only metal that is a liquid at STP (standard temperature and pressure). And he is right, all metals form in rock and earth in compounds, and usually need to be smelted in order to obtain the material. If you’ve ever seen parts of large rock formations that are a dull orange, that’s from the iron that is present in the rocks rusting.
