Lost Rhodes Mine
Throughout the southwest are stories of lost treasures buried deep in the mountains. The true story is lost and now only told as legends or tales. Here is a story told as a lost mine legend for many years. Though the mine was never truly lost, the original discoverer disappeared in the desert when trying to return to his discovery and was never heard from ever again.
There’s another lost Rhodes mine in Utah. They’re still looking for that one.Must have been a lot of roads out west. Ha! no pun intended. Maybe all roads pointed west? Great video;always look forward to them..
Mr. Rhodes is in Devachan working on Karma
You should take a dolly and haul that usable stuff from the blown over cabin and put in the cabin that still standing.
Another thoroughly enjoyable video, great, thanks fella.
The cone crusher you spoke of is just above the mill site in the next gully above it. My wife and I have wondered what that cone thing was. We searched all around there several times looking for the mine but never found it. Looks like the place is in better shape than it was last time we were there in November of 2019. Thanks for the memories.
The Lost Rhodes mine that they are refering to in the books is the one in Utah, Gale Rhodes wrote a book on it as did George Thompson. It was a gold mine not a silver mine.
Good job
This past week explored Manchester, an old gold mining town in Big Sur Monterey County. Not too much up there, but we did find the old mine which was mostly filled in. I have always been interested in ghost towns and mining camps, the best ones were Skiddo and the Keane Wonder Mine in Death Valley!
The remains of the car looks like a late 1940’s/early 1950’s "step-down" Hudson. (The hood was the cue…)
Beautiful scenery and a great camera!
Very nice, video. I like the stills and music at the end that you added.
It’s nice to see it hasn’t been vandalized
Beware, those old Servel refrigerators were known for leaking carbon monoxide.
Fascinating historical relics !
You earned my subscription with that one! imagery was spot on! Camera movements we’re awesome! well done! Was a little bit disappointed we didn’t get to see any actual water by the spring but other than that 10/10..
Form a junk club so you can clean up mother desert!
Hey wow nice new video it’s amaizng and you are always amazing
That old wood burner in the kept up cabin is absolutely beautiful. I would love to have one of those to heat my tiny house with. I’m sure it would need to be completely gone through first but oh my gosh. A silent testament to days gone by.
I know where the Rhodes Mines are , they consist of TWO Shafts about 700 feet apart with a large Gully between them , Both Shafts have a lot of Open Stoping . — < Doc > .
That was very educational and I really enjoyed it thank you for sharing it. What do you think happened to the mine or nobody knows?
The still images are great !
mines and holes in the ground all over the place in california. if it was summer mr rodes died. and the critters picked his bones clean.
Cool little place I really like the old stoves neat to see and thought it was cool that you used to have a 59 willys wagon I have a 56
Great video! Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoy the video & history. A suggestion? – maybe next time when you come upon a spring IN THE DESERT, share some footage. Maybe it wasn’t much to look at, but just sayin’.
Good one!
Are there any current mining operations going it would be great to see that.
Another great vid ,thanks for sharing.
great video as usual
Great video!
I love the style: calm, easy and peaceful.

Look when you go into one of those caves you should tell someone and have Big weather balloon inflated then tied off so uts three or four hundred feet in the air to let people know someones inside.
Have u heard of June Bug Mine ? Very little is known about it it’s located far north of Decatur road by the Gun Range in Las Vegas in Solomon’s Vegas Adventures In his videos he tells u n shows u how to get there it’s about a 5 mile hike each way I feel like there’s more to look at if go a little further then he did I feel maybe the M Cave could be over In That area where Kenny Veach may have found n went in maybe he got lost in the mine or in a cave in that area either way it got me wondering not much known about the mine or the area honestly have no idea how he came across it I think in one comment it tells u who owns the mine
Thank you for great content.
Ohhhh Mannnn! You walked over to within seventy-five feet of the "spring" and you didn’t show any water, again. Rhodes eats toads!
I appreciate your videos and spirit of exploration. It reminds me of my time as a UPS driver in remote areas of SW North Dakota and stumbling onto abandoned homesteads and pioneer cemeteries.
Nice to see show had cleaned up the inside of the cabin, recently. It was looking like a real dump.
Like the story ot this place have to wonder if he was hood winked 😉 some where between the place coming back to his mine out there some where but it along time ago see very cool stove 🐎hores & a mountain cabin & of course rust who say s rust isn’t pretty it mellow out the tones & blends into the desert patinas lovely🦂🐾?
So glad I found your channel really enjoy your history/stories knowledge of the areas you share an the respect you have for trying to save these parts of our history, awesome area thanks for sharing as always be safe 👍👍👍👍👍
Absolute gorgeous area! Loved the story this journey. The photos at the end were awesome. Thank you for spending your $ on gas to get to these places… and sharing with us.
The 1950 USGS topographic map shows 2 buildings: the existing one and another closer to the spring. No mines are shown in the area, but a "prospect" is located nearby to the NE.
Man I hope you know how appreciated your channel is.
Thanks for another excellent adventure! Keep ’em coming! So we can assume Mr Rhodes and company are somewhere between Daggett and his claim? It’s named Death Valley for good reason for sure.
I would’ve enjoyed it if you would’ve showed us the logbook and maybe some of the earliest entries and maybe the last one
The spring could you have walked over and shown us if it was just a little tiny puddle or if it was actually full of water
Bottom of the cabinet: NOT a bed warmer but a popcorn popper to be used over a campfire or stove.
I stayed in that cabin about ten years ago. That stove works pretty good. It’s a shame that second building fell down, the pooper was hidden out of sight from the cabin. I had fun with the miniature golf course in front of the cabin.
