Kayaking Utah's Insanely Blue Water Aqueduct

Kayaking Utah's Insanely Blue Water Aqueduct

Who knew this aqueduct near the Bonneville Salt Flats would be so fun to kayak. The water is so salty that it allows you to float effortlessly. The aqueduct’s purpose is to transport saltwater to nearby evaporation ponds where potash is extracted and used as fertilizer. Some believe the Salt Flats are shrinking due to this mining operation.

The water way and pictures are great but I wonder why nothing is growing on the shores. Is it a waste water? Clean water? Safe?

Why do they always have to attach such horrid music to these scenic videos?

  12. tandersons on April 20, 2021 at 11:38 pm

I heard this is private property, do you have to get permission to swim/kayak here?

That is straight up toxic waste water from a mine. Why on earth would you ever get in that let alone advertise this to others to get into it. 🤦🏻

    https://kutv.com/news/local/majestic-canals-near-bonneville-salt-flats-not-safe-for-public-recreation
Intrepid Potash, the company that uses the canals, was out patrolling on Wednesday, asking swimmers and kayakers to leave. They told 2News people assume the water comes from the Great Salt Lake, but it doesn’t. It’s a concentrated brine solution, and it’s not safe to swim in.

I found the exact location that you filmed and was wondering if you parked on the road or did you travel through the salt flats to get there?

I own 640 acres about 6 miles from this that’s for sale. If anyone is interested let me know.
