Hunting for California Amethyst Crystals

This winter we camped in the California wilderness and hunted for amethyst crystals. We found a fresh pocket of some beautiful crystal specimen, check out how we did it!

  13. Jem Jem on February 21, 2022 at 7:26 am

Okay, but why don’t I have cool friends like this? Haha. I love how you guys hype each other up after every specimen is found. Also, how dope is it that y’all have your own desert DJ!?!?

Time to join a Gem club! 😂 Although I’m not sure if I’ll find anyone local to go digging with. 😅

  16. Donovan McGrath on February 21, 2022 at 7:28 am

Great finds! I’m looking to go amethyst hunting soon myself. Obviously it’d be bad form to ask exactly where this is, but could I get the general region? I’m in the Bay Area and most of the best spots for any kind of gem seem to be in Southern CA, so if this is closer to me that would be really great. If not, any reccomendations for spots around here?

A very cool place you found! I’m in Maryland not so much here at all.
At least in a crystal form of any kind which I tend to be attracted to.
    You are very fortunate…..

Nice finds, it always amazes me what a seemingly barren landscape has to offer

Hey brother just watching your show wondering how come you guys never go hunting 4 rubies in California myself and an old man that used to always be there in Royal Seco campgrounds used to go along the river and find little rubies he hunted up and down the Mountainside for the main vein that these things were coming out of I’ve only found one myself but the old man had a whole jar full of them

You’ve inspired me to start rock hounding and mining for amethyst. I started doing research on rocks and am trying to understand everything. You’re video is seriously awesome and I’m stoked for all your finds! I feel like I have so many questions for you!!! But I guess what makes you pick a spot? And I’m assuming this is Southern California? Sorry I’m still new at this

  26. Michel Schläpfer on February 21, 2022 at 7:37 am

i actually now exactly where you guys were. The weather station gave it away. I’ve been there multiple times =)

  27. Mojave Wander on February 21, 2022 at 7:40 am

This area has been heavily prospected for 100 years, all the washes have been picked clean by rock clubs. You have to hike up the mountain with a pry bar and pick axe to find the nice stuff and it can take several trips to find it. The bushes have lots of deer ticks. There is no cell service and there are rattlesnakes in the brush, so winter trips are the safest. Good luck out there!

  33. Brent Jensen on February 21, 2022 at 7:46 am

    Absolutely worthless without a location.

  34. J.S. Bach BWV 582 on February 21, 2022 at 7:47 am

    Was this public or private?

I’m looking for public spots to do my first dig in the central and north locations but all I’ve found through searching is southern California public sites. :/

Are there any that you know of from central up? Or possibly east Nevada? (I know there are a few public dig sites in Nevada but was wondering what you would recommend for a first time traveler.)

  45. Tony Cava on February 21, 2022 at 8:01 am

If you’re going to have videos about gym hunting at least put the location down even if it’s Just an estimate area.
