Apply directly through the mining company for entry level positions in underground, if you have a manual car licence can pass a medical an a national police check then that’s a lot of what you need.

Keithy, I’m 35 with basically zero trade experience. Does age or lack of experience make a difference? Would appreciate some advice or input. Cheers

Hello Keithy, Thanks for the informative video. I am planning to go WA in the end of this month to work in FIFO.
I would like to start my truck driving career in the mining sites. What kind of truck driving license in Australia would be good starter for a beginner just like me?

If you want to get into mining the first thing you need to do is move to the resource powerhouse that is Western Australia, don’t pussyfoot around with pansy eastern states mining.

  7. Lachlan Perry on May 14, 2022 at 11:30 pm

I read online that some people work at a site for 6 months and earn enough money to take the rest of the year off is this true and realistic or are they just talking it up?

    Hello Keith,

What are the odds of a 19 y/o Irish lad on a working holiday visa landing a job in the mines? Is there any point in giving it a go or should I look at other options?

My mates father owns an earth moving company in NZ, should I be working with him for 6 months and try get as many licenses as possible before heading to WA ? Any courses you know about that would be helpful to get into mines (e.g. First aid …). Cheers Bro

I’ve been researching for some time in mining jobs. My kids are in Oz so am contemplating making the move from NZ to be closer to them but still want my freedom. I work in the health industry here but definitely been looking for another change. Have always wanted to drive trucks so gonna enrol myself into a course and get the ball rolling. Thanks for sharing this vid… has been really helpful.

Anyone in Australia can get a fifo job due to lack of labour.
80% of fifo workers couldn’t land a job in the other states due to high demand of quality labour.
A 19 year old can get a fifo job

  37. Jogula Deepak on May 14, 2022 at 11:57 pm

  40. Tidly Winks on May 15, 2022 at 12:02 am

Im convinced its a rigged system. Ive been told twice by mining HR Reps (not on the record) that i need to be a woman or Aboriginal. Ive been trying for 12 years since and have more tickets than a roll of toilet paper. Ill keep trying but i still think the recruitment process is unfair to all that apply.

Yes i do have Certifications for Operator trainings and certificate of service as well, my experience is quite realy wide together with trainer trainings that i attended and work for it as the Multi Machines Trainer, in this level i believe i am going to fit in any of the Heavy Equipment tasks.
If you know any Company that i may introduce my self, kindly share with me their email adress to start communicating with them.
I hope you know many companies there mate!☺

I love how much you emphasised doing the right thing by your mate. If someone sticks their neck out for you there’s no point screwing them over.
