Gold Panning and Sluicing in Fairplay Colorado July 2022

Gold Panning and Sluicing in Fairplay Colorado July 2022

In this video I spend two days gold prospecting along the famous “Fairplay Beach” in Fairplay, Colorado. It’s been a loooooong time since I was last in Fairplay, and the place has changed a lot. I got my permit and spent much of two days panning and sluicing for gold down on the river. I really found my groove by the second day and was on the gold, when weather shut me down earlier than I would have liked. Please visit htttp://www.mdpub.com for more information.

Fairplay panning permits can be obtained at High Alpine Sports 525 Main street

Last time I was there was 1980 and yes it has changed. There was only a Gas station and a little restaurant. I am watching because I have wanted to work the creek since I first drove thru going to Denver to see my girlfriend. (Driving from Durango up, 285?)

I find if you hold your hand up and create a shadow on the pan sometimes it makes the gold stand out better on camera. Great video Mike!

You may not be aware but back in the day where you see those dredge piles. They were looking for pieces half dollar size and bigger. With the tech that they hasd at the time they were losing 59% out the back of the dredge. That means there’s still half dollar pices and smaller in those dredge piles. Look ing those piles

Years ago a friend of mine put himself through collage in Colorado by panning the tailing of a commercial mining co. With their permission.
