I taught in Clifton for one school year and then went back to Morenci to volunteer with the Morenci Lions Club. I met my ex-fiance in Clifton while she was a student at EAC. I miss Clifton and Morenci. I think there is an age that you reach, when you stop needing or wanting everything under the sun, when you stop chasing the stars and just want to look at them.
My father actually wrote the lyrics to this song. He said he heard George’s voice in his head while composing it, and was lucky enough to have him record it. Thanks for liking it enough to upload it.

this song is so true as men we sacrifice a toil for women who could care less. ive seen so many men get screwed over by women men who worked 12 or more hours a day only to get bitched at by a woman who did next to nothing cheat on him take the kids and rob him blind till the day he dies
Not forgotten – just not regularly played in my home. I believe this recording does the very best job of displaying the power of George’s phrasing and vocal ability. I heard this song first when I was in Vietnam and it just grabbed and shook me. I love it just as much today.
♫ From Morenci, Arizona where the copper mines glow
I could see Clifton in the canyon below
In Clifton lived Rosey, we danced and we dined
On the money I made in the open pit mine ♫ Reminds me of my dear Grand Mother Evelyn Skookum – Feb 7, 2015 <3

just played this for a couple truck driver who were fascinated by the history of Morenci. I told them about George Jones singing a song about Morenci & Clifton. They got all excited about it saying they listen to George all the time but didn’t remember ever hearing this song. So naturally I played it for them. Now they want to find the album lol.

Good god, I’ve cried myself to sleep with this several times. It just doesn’t get more acute than this. We all die alone.

This song describes Morenci to the fullest. You will go on your shift and the mess around will walk in after his shift is over while you are at work
the end verse is quite heartbreaking, all or nothing for the woman you love !!
