French Creek Gold Mining History – Breckenridge, Colorado

Bruce Stover, professional geologist for the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety, discusses the floating dredge boat that sorted through the French Creek valley over 100 years ago, leaving piles of rocks along the entire length of the creek, down to Breckenridge and through the whole Blue River Valley between Breckenridge and Frisco. This was part of a conservation tour for the board of directors of the National Association of State Conservation Agencies (NASCA) on May 13, 2009

Hello Bruce, I saw your video and I would like to ask you about the Breckenridge mining district. I own a few claims very close to the floating dredge in your video one is just above the dredge off of Sallie Barbar Rd. and the other is catiecornner from the dredge by Lincoln city and Farmcomb hill. I’ve been trying to find out as much as I can about the area. I know there was a fire in 1884 and most of Breckenridge burned down and most information was lost. My claims are surrounded by Private patented claims I have reach out to the owners to see if the could left me know about the areas history. Only a few people got back and let me know about there claim history. I’m new at prospecting and have owned my claims for four yrs now and have not done much with it other than annual clean up. I’m researching and taking pictures and reading geology books as well as watch every video on prospecting I can find.
I was hoping that you could possibly help me find out more information on the area so that I know enough so that I could start prospecting the proper way. Thank you and happy holidays!
