Forget failed Red Bull protest – Ferrari must blame itself for losing F1's Monaco GP

Ferrari only has itself to blame for throwing away what seemed like a certain victory in the Monaco Grand Prix after turning a one-two in the early stages into second and fourth place for Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc didn’t even finish on the podium having started from pole position and then led the first 17 laps, thanks to two strategic errors by the Ferrari pitwall. As for Sainz, he had to argue against the incorrect strategy the team tried to put him on – something that might have saved Ferrari from itself but for an inconvenient backmarker getting in the way.
Ferrari has a car capable of fighting for the championship, but the lack of sharpness meant that in changeable conditions in Monaco it was out-manouevred by Red Bull. And it was nothing to do with Perez or Max Verstappen touching the yellow line at the pit exit, which only became an issue post-race because of a careless error by the race director ahead of the weekend.

Looks like Ferrari never learnt from previous debacle. Felt sorry for the drivers.

LOL, this is why Indy Car is so much better than F1 trash. . . You can make that crap up with a faster car. . . F1 no one ever passes while racing on the track. . .

Being a lifelong Ferrari fan I truly believe that people within Ferrari have been sabotaging the F1 team.

The only team that can beat Red Bull giving a competitive car is Mercedes

    It’s always Latifi.

  10. gggggggg on July 23, 2023 at 5:21 pm

I don’t really think they "threw it away", certainly they were unlucky. But you have to give Red Bull a bit of credit……. maybe they just out thought Ferrari. Sainz was certainly unlucky with his last pit stop being held up a bit………. Perez was just plain good.
    But that’s racing

    Pronto shit strategy on

  17. CharlesFreck on July 23, 2023 at 5:27 pm

4:30 I’d like the numbers on that, because my analysis and what I’ve seen from others actually only has Charles losing 1 second to Verstappen due to the pitstop error. I think it’s being overblown the pitstop error. The inters stop was the worse decision, and at best he was finishing 3rd anyway. He wasn’t finishing 1st, his pace was slower then Perez and Sainz chose his own better strategy while driving. Sainz is not a second string driver and neither is Perez.

You taste that..? That’s the sweet taste of Ferrari tears 😭.

Lmao at all the Ferrari complaints. Honestly fuck Ferrari and their constant complaining about everything

    F1 is still corrupt

  21. Stefano Allari on July 23, 2023 at 5:30 pm

Latifi was not the only Williams pilot to damage Ferrari. Albon stayed ahead of Leclerc for over 1 lap, and was shown at least 15 blue flags before giving way. That costed Leclerc the position to Verstappen.

  22. loledd on July 23, 2023 at 5:31 pm

these videos are such a waste of time, just an oral recount with slideshow of what happened in the race.

  23. Jon Thor on July 23, 2023 at 5:33 pm

Easy championship for RB then? Mercedes is slow.. Ferrari is still Ferrari and making blunders.. 🤔

  24. TheGomezIndustries on July 23, 2023 at 5:33 pm

It seems Ferrari need some Redbull to keep them awake.

  25. Erik Nilsen Aamot on July 23, 2023 at 5:36 pm

Very well explained! Sadly it does not make what happend on Sunday, any easier for us Tifosi…:(

  26. E on July 23, 2023 at 5:36 pm

Absolutely zero mention of Albon holding up/at points actively blocking Leclerc for a whole lap while ignoring 20 blue flag notifications and numerous points to let him past – which also contributed to Leclerc losing time just as much as this strategy? I wonder which energy drink manufacterer The Race get their funding from?

  27. Jimli Ash S R on July 23, 2023 at 5:36 pm

Even with Alonso, Vettel, Massa, Raikkonen they never won since 2008.

  28. mg7888 on July 23, 2023 at 5:36 pm

Instead of drawing the yellow line to separate car exit the pit lane and car on track, and they just create a yellow meeting line for them step in!

  29. Chris S on July 23, 2023 at 5:38 pm

These videos are on par with the quality of official F1 videos in terms of production and information provided. Excellent insights and technical info that any F1 fan can understand. Thanks for all you do!

  30. gooddaysunshine17 on July 23, 2023 at 5:38 pm

That was the biggest mistake I’ve seen in modern F1.

  31. Lauri L on July 23, 2023 at 5:40 pm

How can you see if a full wheel is over the line or not? Seems bad upgrade to the rule as it makes it much harder to detect. Wheel, suspension, wing and floor covers the line – how can you see if it is over or not? Before it was clear and easy not see from outside

  32. Rufino Capati on July 23, 2023 at 5:45 pm

    Ferrari blunder. Poor Lecrec

  33. Chico Bicalho on July 23, 2023 at 5:46 pm

Niki Lauda called this kind of ‘stratergy’ from Ferrari -"spaghetti tactics"

  34. 虎ちゃん on July 23, 2023 at 5:51 pm

Maybe they spent all their money on car development…

  35. Jxy16 on July 23, 2023 at 5:51 pm

Bro I’m telling Lecerc is cursed on that track

  36. steve brooks on July 23, 2023 at 5:52 pm

vet did cross the line thats bull the whole tire must be over u cannot touch that line

  37. SmOgER on July 23, 2023 at 5:53 pm

My question is why did they pit Charles for inters when they did, when the data clearly showed that he’s gonna rejoin behind Perez? Did they just hope for the best and choose to ignore it? I mean, these are supposed to be one of the smartest people there are. And yet still watching on TV that error was obvious immediately when he entered the pits. And when he rejoined behind Perez they were then all surprised and started panicking resulting in yet another error? I’m a Ferrari fan… but this is fucking hilarious. 😂

  38. Robbert Sprezzatura on July 23, 2023 at 5:57 pm

    Still recent now hahaha

  39. PSk on July 23, 2023 at 5:59 pm

It’s not just Vettel F1 newbies, it’s Alonso, it’s Prost, it’s probably even Gilles and so on. You have to do everything yourself when you are a Ferrari F1 driver > Lauda new this and Schumacher got Todt to hire the right people for this.

Leclec needs to learn strategy and tell his team what to do as they can’t work it out themselves.

At least Leclerc has a good car. Prost with Steve Nichols had to battle the team to get the spring rates they wanted … pathetic

  40. richard c on July 23, 2023 at 6:02 pm

Charles you need to make up with the old girl friend to reverse the curse

  41. James Alcaraz on July 23, 2023 at 6:02 pm

Everyone: Ferrari how are you going to ruin this race?
    Ferrari: Yes!

  42. Carlo on July 23, 2023 at 6:06 pm

    Latifi really is poo.

  43. Edwin Johnson on July 23, 2023 at 6:06 pm

    Correction..Ferrari was outmaneuvered by Itself……
As I’ve said repeatedly over the past decade and again after their Clear Car Performance Superiority over the rest of the field in Preseason Testing…..
Ferrari should have won at least "2" GIMMIE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE LAST DECADE BUT FOR THEIR INABILITY TO CALL A CORRECT STRATEGY which didn’t help Vettels propensity to have a Brain Fart here & there which at times combined for a Singapore moment…….
This is another Singapore moment…Fortunately it’s early in the season…Can they Correct their Weakness Inability to call Strategy

  44. Mario AM on July 23, 2023 at 6:07 pm

    Beautiful analysis. That’s all.

  45. steve brooks on July 23, 2023 at 6:08 pm

  46. keith sudzy on July 23, 2023 at 6:09 pm

Funny, I’m an avid watcher of F1 but by no means a master strategist , BUT as soon as i heard them call LeClerc in i was like OH NO they blew it…..If i know that then F1 Ferrari better know that…lol

  47. Seth N. on July 23, 2023 at 6:10 pm

Ferrari never stops crying and bitching with blame thrown the same as the past 20 years

  48. chapel976 on July 23, 2023 at 6:10 pm

is that 8-bit game looking results thing something viewers can interact with?

  49. Con Maartens on July 23, 2023 at 6:11 pm

I agree. Ferrari needs a new stategist. Their current one is useless.

  50. John Beton on July 23, 2023 at 6:11 pm
