Exploring the Amazon Mine near Logan Utah

Exploring the Amazon Mine near Logan Utah

No. 65

Music by Otis McDonald and Jeremy Blake

Welcome to the Amazon Mine: railway systems, crystals, a giant pit of death, connections to natural caves, branches, this cave has everything.

There are a few features in the mine which are worth going into detail about:

First Highlight: there is a large vertical cave that connects to a section of the mine. There are anchors at the top and gear is required to descend and ascend through it. If you would like me to explore this cave system, click like. Since this video already has over 100 likes, you can see the next Amazonian adventure here: https://youtu.be/HwKYeIuZZ94

Second Highlight: There is an entire chamber where the walls are covered in mud. You can use your finger sign your name. Because of this, the entire chamber is covered through the decades with names of people who had been there. It is now a giant guest register.

Final Highlight: At the very end of the mine, there is a large pit that descends at least fifty feet. On top of the pit, there is a giant wooden platform, which you would have to jump to get onto. Legend has it that a dog once fell into the pit and eventually died. Because of that, this mine is also nicknamed “Dog Pit”.

The name of the company that created this mine was Amazon which is why it was named the Amazon Mine. Other mines in the area are also named Amazon, because the company wanted to make it really easy to find…

We added another anchor and went down the cave you were talking about. My guess it it’s about 120 feet deep and it’s amazing at the bottom. Highly recommend. There is one tight squeeze you’ll have to get through though, it’s pretty tight to ascend back through.

Do they mine along faults to make rock removal easier, or because that’s where the veins are?

We found the exact location for the entrance, but it is buried with a lot of snow now unfortunately.
