Exploring abandoned uranium mine in Southern California with the RadiaCode101 dosimeter by RadiaScan

Hours out into the desert finally finding a uranium mine with counts exceeding 10 microsieverts. RadiaCode101 is the newest handheld spectrometer on the market which will give readings nearly instantaneously compared to your standard GM tube. It will also allow you to record and identify the isotopes being picked up. Hope you guys enjoyed and sorry for the somewhat shaky video as I forgot my tripod but was too excited to try again another day.

4:40 – What did you think at that moment? Have you ever been in a much more dangerous place? For example at 10 times higher dose rate.

It’s good to wear a P100 respirator mask if you go into more dusty old mines. Alpha emitting dust particles are known to deliver a 20 times dose weighting factor inside the lungs up against internal tissues without skin to protect it. Not much of a concern when outside the body, fortunately.

    Still stunted.

Would be interesting to know how it works on weaker sources for example on food or sth like that.

There were white pixel flashes when really dark. ~4:30 for example. Maybe from the radiation?

How did you go about researching your location? I live in a county next to Lancaster, which also has some uranium mines, mostly up in the "canyon", but would love to learn about other spots.

Woah, I didn’t know my state had any mines like this, any chance you’d share where that was?
Exploring a uranium mine is definitely going on my bucket list now lol
