In this episode, I explore many of Cerro Gordo’s abandoned mines! I went into dozens of old mines over the course of a few days and settled on one right up the hill from town to put a little lounge area in. It’s probably not safe enough for guests to visit, but it’s my own little getaway.

THANK YOU!
My name is Brent I purchased the former mining town of “Cerro Gordo” this past July 13th (Friday the 13th). Since the Coronavirus outbreak, I’ve moved from Austin, Texas up to the town and I’m living alone in this abandoned ghost town trying to make it into a place for more people to enjoy.
Sometimes it’s beautiful and amazing, sometimes it’s terrifying and the scariest thing I’ve ever done. I grew up in the flatlands of Florida, so this is all new territory for me.
The town was originally established in 1865 and by 1869 they were pulling 340 tons of bullion out of the mountain for Los Angeles.
The silver from Cerro Gordo was responsible for building Los Angeles. The prosperity of Cerro Gordo demanded a larger port city and pushed LA to develop quickly.
The Los Angeles News once wrote:
“What Los Angeles is, is mainly due to it. It is the silver cord that binds our present existence. Should it be uncomfortably severed, we would inevitably collapse.”
In total, there has been over $17,000,000 of minerals pulled from Cerro Gordo. Adjusted for inflation, that number is close to $500,000,000.
It’s been a wild ride so far owning a ‘ghost town’ and we’re having a lot of fun figuring out what to do with it.

Bro buys a mining town and goes into shafts with no head lamp. That’s a head scratcher.
Brent… saying Cerro gordo is responsible for LA isn’t a good thing lol LA is an infected scab
Gas could be a danger in the mine, CO2 for example
POV: Nobody liked you in your town so you buy your own (This is just joke, nothing personal, I love watching your videos btw :D)
14:12 Is that hole where the Balrogs live?
My favorite parts are when you mutter, "oh, fuck!"
Ever thought about setting yourself up a blacksmith spot?
Please get this guy some kind of head protection :’D As an Austrian having visited some mines open to the public myself, I can’t even imagine going into one of those ancient, not-at-all-secure mines without some kind of helmet 🙈
The lounge is hilarious!
Dude, that is super creepy
Man cave…so cool
Oh my lounge is cool but don’t think I could sleep there 🤪🤪🤪❤️❤️
What is the temperature inside the cave?
Have you tried putting trail cams at entrances or inside mines to see if anything comes and goes over a week or month? It would be neat to see and also help for safety.
That land has a lot of homes for wild animals. Have you ever found a wild animal, snake, rat or bat in a cave? You definitely taught me a lot about mines through your adventures. That is amazing that the tobacco tin kept the location paper untouched for 96 years out in the open. Crazy. So the ancestors of that person don’t own the mine? Once you bought the land, you got to inherit all those mines? Maybe instead of the resort, you should create haunted mines, mine tours and ghost tours through the haunted buildings in town.
Dude you are just the coolest
you need a couple mules dude
Really enjoyed you taking us along exploring the mines. Take care and be safe buddy
This is an old video, but kids… NEVER EVER EVER EVERY DO THIS!!! My God! At least tell people you’re going exploring and will check in at a predetermined time. This is massively irresponsible and YouTubers have a history of doing massively irresponsible things for the sake of views and that’s dangerous territory. That said… LOVE this series! But seriously… be smart and safe and teach smart and safe. Also, 10:32 looks like my recent colonoscopy
Get some trail cameras to put outside the mine entrance to find out what animals living in the mines. Would be so cool to see that bobcat. Thanks for letting us explore with you. 👍
You should Flag the Cave entrance so you can Revisit them! Jus say’s! And no potty mouth. Thanks
Sleeping in there would be legit the real life “paranormal activity ⛏ mining edition”. Just imagine sitting in that couch and hearing mining ⛏ sounds. Legit Heart attack material.
Serious now, ✊ RESPECT
Those clouds though!
Thank you Dave sparks and diesel Dave for turning me on to your channel I love it!
MUTHAFUCKIN MINE TIME
lmao if this is actually is a ghost town then there must be some ghost… so imagine that your a ghost from the 1800s then you see a guy claiming that he bought the whole town also then he is moves your furniture into an old mine and talking to a weird device aka a camera
to me that’s kind of funny to think of ghost must be hella confused
Just started watching hope you have pics of the town etc stuff you’ve found, great watch so far
I’m a geologist and I find these videos really fascinating. Have you tried to collect all the mining documents from the last 150 years? They must have most of them in local libraries/geological survey databases. Nowadays, with the right software and expertise you could map out the mine shatfs, build a reliable map where the mines are – identify them using coordinates from the old claims, etc. – and even get a large 3D model using the mine plans. I would love to see some geology/mining expert in your video one day, to better understand how the ores were formed and what can be still there underground.
In the one with the track and possible bobcat, what’s the bluish rock around the entrance? I am a lapidary artist and just curious if it’s cuttable material?
Would love to visit. Even better would appreciate sending my son there for adventure and time away from social media.
My homeschooled grandchildren would love to watch your videos but…too many swear words. Even if you bleep them out, bummer. Great videos though!
So dangerous to explore alone in case something were to happen!
I miss the music you play at the 10 minutes point…when walking through the tunnels…ita really true melody of ghostly/abandoned towns. Good your keeping the place alive…really dig the song should play more often for those havent heard yet.
Peace Brent✌
When you try to explain to your date you live in "a hole in the wall" after she said she wants to see your place..
I’ll bet the guy that had the ladder building contract for this place was really rich as well
Lol
Ah ha ha, a lounge! I LOVE it, I love how this guy thinks!
The miner’s lounge idea is awesome!!! I truely enjoy all of the videos thanks.

The song by Styx comes to mind.
I might be addicted to this channel..
Watching a guy walk into caves and play with rocks. Lol
BTW, it is really amazing, the ladders these guys built 100yrs ago can still be climbed many of them.
Be safe!
I’m so invested in this town now…. haha
200 years from now someone is going to go back there doing what you’re doing and be just as amazed finding that as you are finding denim 😆 🤣 😂
What a great show. The lounge blows me away. Bucket list ….. I’ll be there someday
The door to Death Valley mine needs some suring up. Those big rocks at the front door seem questionable…….. getting stuck inside may be a problem. You should carry a pick axe and a small fold up shovel. Maybe get a drag bag and put some survival stuff in it.
Get this guy a headlamp!
You should turn a part of one of the mines into a giant slide.
Would be cool to see you make an under ground bunker in one of the mines steel doors and such not sure how you could get electricity and water 200 ft underground tho
New subscribers. Guess what I’m binge watching today! 💓🏴💓
I really wish you would txt someone like a friend or family member and let them know you’re going down to explore. Let them know the general vicinity of where you’re exploring that day and that if they don’t hear from you by X time to come look for you. You never know what could happen man. You could slip and fall and break a leg. Your rope or ladder could break. Especially those 100 + year old ladders. I feel like it would just be smart to have that backup… Ya know…
Man I got scared when he said wtf was that
