In this episode, I explore many of Cerro Gordo’s abandoned mines! I went into dozens of old mines over the course of a few days and settled on one right up the hill from town to put a little lounge area in. It’s probably not safe enough for guests to visit, but it’s my own little getaway.

THANK YOU!
My name is Brent I purchased the former mining town of “Cerro Gordo” this past July 13th (Friday the 13th). Since the Coronavirus outbreak, I’ve moved from Austin, Texas up to the town and I’m living alone in this abandoned ghost town trying to make it into a place for more people to enjoy.
Sometimes it’s beautiful and amazing, sometimes it’s terrifying and the scariest thing I’ve ever done. I grew up in the flatlands of Florida, so this is all new territory for me.
The town was originally established in 1865 and by 1869 they were pulling 340 tons of bullion out of the mountain for Los Angeles.
The silver from Cerro Gordo was responsible for building Los Angeles. The prosperity of Cerro Gordo demanded a larger port city and pushed LA to develop quickly.
The Los Angeles News once wrote:
“What Los Angeles is, is mainly due to it. It is the silver cord that binds our present existence. Should it be uncomfortably severed, we would inevitably collapse.”
In total, there has been over $17,000,000 of minerals pulled from Cerro Gordo. Adjusted for inflation, that number is close to $500,000,000.
It’s been a wild ride so far owning a ‘ghost town’ and we’re having a lot of fun figuring out what to do with it.

Go back to the decent size mines and look for old artifacts
you should find a huge cavern and then set up a bunch of tea lights . I"m a photographer and I do it a lot in places like that. I just did a mine last weekend. It will light up the entire place and it looks super cool. Message me if you want me to send you some pictures as examples.. It will blow you away how cool it looks in person and for pictures.. Also the lighting is enough for video with enough tea lights
Now that’s a Man Cave! LOL!
I know Brent is never going to read this, but if you ever find yourself in a situation where you suspect a big cat lies unseen at one end of a tunnel, do not take your eyes off that direction and back out if you have to. Think of predatory cats as Weeping Angels.
Man you are fucking crazy! Appreciate this type of video
Greetings from an Italian fan👋🏼🇮🇹
Wonder if someone was living in that mine with the furniture, why else haul it there.
abandon mine lounge
For those wondering- the graffiti in black shown art around 11:00 was likely done by holding up a candle and allowing the soot to create a mark on the wall. This was a relatively common way of mark making/graffiti in caves and tunnel systems in that era.
this guy playing minecraft irl
I would love to come up and teach you how to handle the paper and some of the artifacts and bring you some supplies to be able to do so
looks awesome!!! just wondering how the roads are, approaching FROM the west???
My husband and I love watching your YouTube channel. Seeing how much work you are putting into this town it inspired me to fix my old TV today and give it to my mother in law as a gift. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it ain’t treasure. Keep working hard. You are doing great! 😊
$4 a day? For that type of work? I get inflatipn & adjusting to todays pay but even then $4 a day is nothing.
I came
do you allow visitors? ill bring enough beers to keep yhou going for a whole winter. this town looks amazing!
7:55 My boy just found Herobrine
Him: "Worried about meeting a bob-cat alone"
Me: Why’s he so worried about a bob cat? They’re tiny and shy as hell.
I’ve just realized he’s mixing up bobcats which are small lynxs and Mountain lions which are very much not small.
talk about living the dream this guy definitely is having fun every day I’m jealous
This triggers so much horror in me, I couldn’t get paid a sum to move any way into the mines
WHAT EVEN IS THE POINT OF BUYING A MINING TOWN IF U ARE ANYWAYS NOT GOING TO EXPLORE PROPERLY WHAT AN IDIOTIC INVESTMENT USBSHDHEVABSUSUBbzb
brent: don’t lean back on the couch
*_proceeds to lean back on the couch_*
Don’t lean back in the lounge
The one that you think a bobcat might be in, I would go back later and close the front of the hole and leave it closed for a month before exploring, either to make sure that it finds a new place to live or to starve it to death before exploring
I wish this guy would stop cussing every 60 seconds, my kids want to watch this but I won’t let them
7:50 this shadow person was saying something. Easier to hear if you slow down playback.
"Andy Carlson took a whole…" and cuts off
Sweet!
Seeing people doing stuff like this is one in a million doubt stuff but keeping it the same if that sense most people would completely strip it
Such a perfect place for ghost stories. I can imagine the crap working conditions, overworked miners that were most probably underpaid too :/
“It was a dragon of some kind.” — Eric Cartman from South Park
Can I come hang out with you in the lounge? Seems comfy!
My kid is asking about minecraft. I have been telling her that you are the guy on minecraft but in real life. She is 8 and so far she believes me. 😂
This is the coolest YouTube channel man.
"what the fuck was that?"
Me: oh don’t worry that’s bobby
Seriously? A Mannequin?! I literally cannot wait for someone in the future, 50 – 100 yrs at least to explore that Mine shaft then freaks out because they’ll see a human silhouette chillin in the freaking dark.
Are you afraid one of the areas under the mountain might collapse? Every time you go into one, I’m nervous for you! Be careful!
Scary shit on this episode
Be aware dangerous gases can build up in those mines, first, you feel dizzy, then vision gets blurry, then you pass out and now you are F@#ked. You need to have so much gear in a backpack and a mate to explore with and not alone. You’re doing risky stuff and sure it is fun until it’s not, sprain an ankle, and you are done. At the very least have a few light sources, 2 x torches, glow sticks, spare batteries, food, water, foil emergency blanket, first aid kit, and a handgun preferably a revolver. All the best from Oz and remember to take things slow. ✌🦘🍻🙏
Can anyone explain why he said it "wasn’t his place" to take the denim out of the mine? Seems like a reasonable way to finance the project, plus he owns the property, does he not own everything within the mines as well?
I’m honestly impressed that he is still alive.
you should tie a line to a go pro and lower it down those shafts put a flashlight on it also
You need to carry a pistola 🔫 just in case.
somebody mail this dude some timbs or something
This dudes narrations are just great, not the typical Utube narrations. I feel because of his Demeanor is why people can relate and enjoy his Channel. not quite Morgan Freeman narrations but still awesome personality nonetheless great job!!!!
I grew up around old mines in Northern California, and it’s not just collapse or wildlife that can be fatal. They can be full of sodium cyanide, mercury, all kinds of caustic agents and acids, real nasty stuff. Some places would literally start melting your shoes just walking around on top. I don’t know if he somehow knows they didn’t use heavy metals or toxic chemicals in that area, I’m no historian, but that would be one of my biggest concerns.
Love your stuff buddy. Maybe its my OCD but why not clean up all the boards around the place as you go. Plus you could ask for volunteers to help bring all the wood back to a main area so you can use to rebuild the town. Then mark the mines based on what you find. Seems like a walking lawsuit waiting to happen and it would be hard to say its private property when you keep inviting people to come check it out.
Very cool content man. For real.
4:39: "WTF was that?"………."we all float down here Brent!"…..Next youtube video: "why I’m selling my Ghost Town."
That couch is probably worth something as it looks to have ornate feet on it
