In this episode, I explore many of Cerro Gordo’s abandoned mines! I went into dozens of old mines over the course of a few days and settled on one right up the hill from town to put a little lounge area in. It’s probably not safe enough for guests to visit, but it’s my own little getaway.

My name is Brent I purchased the former mining town of “Cerro Gordo” this past July 13th (Friday the 13th). Since the Coronavirus outbreak, I’ve moved from Austin, Texas up to the town and I’m living alone in this abandoned ghost town trying to make it into a place for more people to enjoy.

Sometimes it’s beautiful and amazing, sometimes it’s terrifying and the scariest thing I’ve ever done. I grew up in the flatlands of Florida, so this is all new territory for me.

The town was originally established in 1865 and by 1869 they were pulling 340 tons of bullion out of the mountain for Los Angeles.

The silver from Cerro Gordo was responsible for building Los Angeles. The prosperity of Cerro Gordo demanded a larger port city and pushed LA to develop quickly.

The Los Angeles News once wrote:

“What Los Angeles is, is mainly due to it. It is the silver cord that binds our present existence. Should it be uncomfortably severed, we would inevitably collapse.”

In total, there has been over $17,000,000 of minerals pulled from Cerro Gordo. Adjusted for inflation, that number is close to $500,000,000.

It’s been a wild ride so far owning a ‘ghost town’ and we’re having a lot of fun figuring out what to do with it.

I spent 25 years on the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team. Since you’re doing much of this alone to help your rescuers find you, in case of an accident, always good to make a writtten log of where you are going, day and time, and then call someone when you get back. Or, you could just text a friend this info before you leave the house.

Your background music is a perfect match to your videos:)
The adventures you take the viewer on is beautiful and
very dangerous at the same time.
I love the historical vintage treasures left behind in your
ghost town. A time capsule to sleeping history.
15:12 Ghost Adventures "Zak Bagan" would love your
cave lounge! You drug all those things deep into that shaft or what ever it’s called?
Took lots of work, but paid off very well:)

What is the blue up on the wall?

you need a really good pair of hicking boots. they work great in snow & on rocks. Plus some socks too. Your ankles won’t get so sore & your tennie shoes are useless up there. Use them for around inside your home. Not trying to come across bossy but only trying to help ya.

  13. Justa Head on January 19, 2021 at 2:36 am

Also, there is a nifty device called an Inreach, now owned by Garmin. Satellite based can’t get a signal inside a shaft but on mine I always do an auto text to a friend just before I crawl into a hole and with the text it automatically sends them a map with coordinates of exactly where you went in. In an emergency if you can mange to claw your way outside it has an SOS button that goes to a global answering system who then calls in the calvary. Have fun, be safe!

When the camera is going fast through the tunnel it looked like someone having a colonoscopy 🙂

  15. ImAFLying Cactus on January 19, 2021 at 2:38 am

Looks like there is asbestos in one of those tunnels. You might want to invest in a p100 respirator.

  16. Wings Within on January 19, 2021 at 2:38 am

That sounds like so much fun 🤩

  17. Jennifer Carson Klubnik on January 19, 2021 at 2:39 am

  22. Christian Lub on January 19, 2021 at 2:41 am

Good job on videos. Your rocking it in those old mines. Your great personality shows thru! I would really like to see a video on how you heard about this mine and the purchasing process.

A neat place to hide and survive when the world ends

  24. Jess Yess on January 19, 2021 at 2:42 am

Stash survival kits inside the mine lounge and on other parts of the mountain. Put a flag so you can find them easily if needed.

  25. Erich Haley on January 19, 2021 at 2:43 am

How much did it cost to just buy an abandoned town? If you’re the official owner, what are your plans for the town?

  26. evilborg on January 19, 2021 at 2:43 am

    Now that’s a MAN CAVE !!!

  29. JerryCan on January 19, 2021 at 2:48 am

Watching all your videos. I’ve worked in underground mines and something you need to know before going too deep.. if you can’t light a lighter, start heading back. There isn’t enough oxygen for you

  30. Ian Jackson on January 19, 2021 at 2:49 am

Do you get the coordinates for each of these mines you find?

  31. Fly gal on January 19, 2021 at 2:49 am

  32. Christina Zaderenko on January 19, 2021 at 2:51 am

Vlogs are a little interesting….however…..sorry to say that you are a sub optimal story teller.

  35. Myles Willis on January 19, 2021 at 2:52 am

14:30 Um, it’s pretty creepy right there bud, I don’t putting it in a mine is going to add much.

  36. JD Dunham on January 19, 2021 at 2:53 am

  37. Jason Bentley on January 19, 2021 at 2:57 am

  38. Errol Pollard on January 19, 2021 at 2:57 am

Where did you place the mannequin?

  39. still Living on January 19, 2021 at 2:57 am

I like the channel, but If you could edit out the swearing that would be nice, because there is no reason for it. Good luck, and God bless.

  40. MikeOrkid on January 19, 2021 at 3:00 am

Carbide headlamps were used for the miners graffiti in the mines. The acetylene makes a lot of soot when burned near the wall. You probably know that by now.

  41. Danny Musick on January 19, 2021 at 3:01 am

I hope this dude was packing heat during these explorations. Hand held radio to.

  42. heidi smith on January 19, 2021 at 3:01 am

Why don’t you get some decent boots?

  43. History Lover on January 19, 2021 at 3:02 am

The black graffiti is called miner’s graffiti; they wrote using their carbide light. That couch is an antique couch, as well as the light.

  44. Charlene Myers on January 19, 2021 at 3:06 am

I really hope you didn’t leave that stuff in there! And how the heck did you get it up to the mine if it was 3 miles from Cerro Gordo.

  45. Krystal Schneider on January 19, 2021 at 3:08 am

I’d pay to visit and stay in this town 😂 💵

  46. J Abbott on January 19, 2021 at 3:08 am

When you go exploring the mines, put a flag or some marker that would tell people, he’s in that one. I hope you call someone on the days you go explore ans check in when you get home. One rung breaks in one of those ladders and you could be stuck. I hate to think Youtubers would be the first to know you stopped posting and raise the alarm?

  47. clintrock on January 19, 2021 at 3:10 am

You should ask levi Strauss or some other company to make a limited run of 500 or so pair of new century Levi’s and sell them for 250 or whatever to put profit into town.maybe Lewisville open a store in your new hotel. Just random thoughts.
