What a bunch of complete f*****g idiots! At the beginning, it’s just a trickle! If they had brought that backhoe in just as the outflow started, they could have blocked the entrance to the mine and stopped it before it began!

If you people read the cpr/news/story/gold-king-mine-1887-claim-private-profits-and-social-costs. you will learn the truth behind this disaster caused the problem of the backed up toxic waste water, but refused to clean it up. Former mine owners wouldn’t clean up their mess. They tried to plug the mines but the plugs were leaking. So the mess was left to the EPA to fix. The construction company hired by the EPA caused the blow out…they hadn’t realised how much water had built up behind the plug. By the way, the mine produced $150 MILLION for the former owners. So blame the mine owners, not the EPA who was trying to fix someone else’s mess, nor Obama. He had nothing to do with it. READ THE ARTICLE PEOPLE! SHEESH!

  8. Chase Davidson on March 4, 2022 at 1:20 pm

This is the fault of the engineers who assumed things about the water level inside of the mine. Had they drilled from above first they would’ve discovered that the water level was too high to open it the way they did.

The mine was already seeping the same comtaminents into the environment and it need to be drained and treated properly. Sadly someone decided it would be too expensive/difficult to check that their plan would work. And of course being a government agency there are no consequences

  9. American Born Republic on March 4, 2022 at 1:21 pm

This was setup by the EPA! Furthermore… How was it that the camera just so happened to start rolling before the spill occurred? Hmmmm?

  10. GETCHA SOME on March 4, 2022 at 1:21 pm

  12. Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places on March 4, 2022 at 1:22 pm

The EPA did more damage to the environment with this colossal fuck-up than any abandoned mine explorer has done or ever will do. At :44 in the video some clueless person asks “What do we do now?” How about leaving abandoned mines alone and quit trying to plug them, close them, destroy them, or otherwise raze them so that their history is destroyed and lost forever? Start there.

  13. Suck my Dick on March 4, 2022 at 1:26 pm

Everyone just stands there, no effort to try and stop it. If they acted quickly in the beginning this could have been prevented!

  14. Chris Ackerley on March 4, 2022 at 1:28 pm

We’re from the government. We’re here to help you! NOT!!!!!!

  15. Chase Davidson on March 4, 2022 at 1:29 pm

When all you had to do was drill a hole from above to verify the water level is actually where you think it is but you decide that because it worked at another mine in the past (where they drilled a hole 1st) it should be fine

What causes this? Why was the water in the mountain? Is this someone’s idiotic enormous mistake or was it an accident? I know nothing of mining.
