I remember going to see this film in the theater when I was supposed to be looking for a job. After the movie I applied at that very theater and got the job. An usher. Not great pay but the funest job I ever had.
This was not John Candy’s final film. His final film that he completed was Canadian Beacon. He died during the filming of Wagons East in his sleep on March 4, 1994.
I love this movie! It doesn’t seem like movies are made anymore where the journey is more important than "winning" (thinking of Rocky also). It’s really too bad hollywood has dropped the lesson that winning isn’t everything.

1 of John Candy’s last Films. it was Followed by the Made for T.V. Movie "Hostage For a Day", Wagons East The Film he was working on when he Sadly Died in his Sleep, and his Final Film Released in 1995 Canadian Bacon. Some People Say We Can’t Believe, Jamaica We got a Bobsled Team. Don’t Worry Minty Many People say Cool Runnings was John Candy’s Final Film, but it was one of his Final 4. Peace Be The Journey. Yeah But Slow Clap is a Common Hollywood Trope. Benny and Joon is a Rom-Com? I don’t see it that way, Maybe because Benny is so Over Bearing, And Sam seems like he’s Special Needs himself. But Yeah Wagon’s East and Canadian Bacon, I think were made with Body Doubles for John Candy Since He Died in July of 1994 while Filming Wagon’s East. So We can call this John’s Last Film if you want to.
Hey Minty! You forgot to mention that one of the working titles for this film was “Black Men Can’t Bobsled.” The title was inspired due to the success of the film “White Men Can’t Jump.” I read that in an old Entertainment Weekly magazine.
The "Eddie the Eagle" film mirrors this very closely in it’s based on true events but not really style. Ironic when you realise that Eddie also appeared at the 1988 Olympics. And largely forgotten was the entry of the US Virgin islands in the 2 man event and the Netherlands Antilles, not countries associated with winter sports. 😉

Another interesting fact is that Jamaica was not the only Caribbean nation competing. In the 4 man bob was also the US Virgin Islands. In the 2 man was the Netherland Antilles
They weren’t the only Caribbean bobsleigh team in the 1988 winter Olympics, the Dutch Antilles and U.S. Virgin Islands also debuted. Guatemala also competed in the Luge, Downhill skiing and Biathlon. The Jamaican team didn’t ‘crash’ either, they were recognized as having an explosive start (thanks to the guys sprinting abilities – in 2002 they set the record for for the push segment) in the 1994 winter Olympics Jamaica did well, finishing 14th out of 25. (ahead of the US & Russia).
1988 was interesting as the second and third place teams in the four man, and all the teams in the two man events ceased to exist (The Soviet union and East Germany – East Germany winning silver and bronze in the two man event).
feel the rhythm feel the rhyme come on boys its bobsled time. had privilege of meeting Doug E last year great dude. sadly never meet john Candy always liked his work.

I love this movie! It doesn’t seem like movies are made anymore where the journey is more important than "winning" (thinking of Rocky also). It’s really too bad hollywood has dropped the lesson that winning isn’t everything.
when a studio drops a script/film, allowing other studio(s) to buy the project, it is caslled turnaround, NOT turnabout!
