That "jail" at the abandoned gas station was just for tourists to take photos. It would be way too weak to keep snyone from just kicking out a board or two so they could escape. In the late 70s and early 80s, my family took road trips across the country every year. I saw many similar set-ups.

  4. EasyEthanol on July 9, 2023 at 10:44 am

There should make that phx mart a skate park and a concert venue. A concert out of the sun would be fuckin amazing

  5. Danny Trammell on July 9, 2023 at 10:45 am

I cringe at every mention of Route "Six Six". Have you seriously never heard Route "Sixty Six" pronounced out loud before?

  6. b e l l s !!🎧💋. on July 9, 2023 at 10:45 am

i’ve never know about these places and i’m an az native, born and raised here. and i’ve been out of the middle of the remote desert before MANY times. but cool that i get to see this!

  7. Dave miller on July 9, 2023 at 10:45 am

I pretty sure the number 10 ghost adventures did an episode here

  8. shane tucker on July 9, 2023 at 10:46 am

I’ve been to every one of these except gold king and phoenix mart. I’ve even stayed in the motel at grey mountain. They are tearing down the domes in Cassa grande. The jail at the bottom of Salt River canyon is just for tourist.

  9. Michael Smith on July 9, 2023 at 10:49 am

I used to eat at that Pancake House in 2002, on my way to and from Witch Wells, where I lived. I have memories of it. So strange to see it as a ruin now. Cool video.

  10. Ryan Dobson on July 9, 2023 at 10:49 am

It’s also Route "sixty six", not "six, six". Great video

  11. Jeff Lunt on July 9, 2023 at 10:49 am

    Santa Clause AZ nolonger exists.

  12. Lynseyluvs Atwink on July 9, 2023 at 10:49 am

My favorite abandoned place in Arizona is "Kari Lake’s Shaggy Muff Lounge". This was a very popular tourist attraction up until 2022. I went many times, and the Shaggy Muff Lounge was a warm and inviting place. I think the owner went a little Q-crazy and attendance at the Shaggy Muff Lounge really started to fall off.

  13. museluvr on July 9, 2023 at 10:50 am

"Do whatever you like with that information" …. no, not the best advice. If it reads ‘private property’ that means you stay out/off, or you are legally trespassing. I’d avoid giving bad legal advice if I were you.

  14. Kno xzz on July 9, 2023 at 10:52 am

You missed some of the best spots get ya knowledge up 😤

  15. Cindy Lee Haddock on July 9, 2023 at 10:55 am

That is so sad. As a kid my parents had us stop at Fort Courage because we loved to watch F Troop. We ate at that Pancake House. Too bad.

  16. Ancient Pollyanna on July 9, 2023 at 10:56 am

Phoenix Mart would be a great grow-house.

  17. donna rouse on July 9, 2023 at 10:58 am

I am not from AZ but have lived a while in Central phoenix.had the pleasure of living in Arizona city, Payson, Heber, camped up near Christopher creek . Also went north and had some great pie and Rocky mountain oysters at rock springs. And used to go dancing at Mr luckys. Also went tubing on the salt River! Great fun. Thanks for the video!

IT IS SO DEPRESSING TO THINK THAT I’LL BE BUILDINGS ARE ABANDONED WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY HOMELESS PEOPLE AND PEOPLE LIVING IN THEIR VEHICLES THAT WOULD LOVE TO LIVE THERE

  21. Mister Vacation on July 9, 2023 at 10:59 am

  22. Becky Graybeal on July 9, 2023 at 11:01 am

  23. ramonesgirl1 on July 9, 2023 at 11:04 am

Really? you didn’t know about F-Troop because you’re a millennial… That’s no excuse it’s a classic. Of course, it might not be woke enough for a because it wasn’t woke at all just very funny. I knew about David Bowie when I was 12.. So it’s not your age well maybe it is.. "millennials" never mind…wait we were wearing doc Martin’s in the late seventies in the late 70’s & early 80’s and still have them today so um early 2000…posers lol jk I don’t really give a shite.. You just talk so fast I thought my head was gonna explode.

  24. Louis Liu on July 9, 2023 at 11:05 am

4;08 Fun Fact on F Troop: I owned a 1917 McClellan cavalry saddle and the saddle bags were actually stamped "F Troop". Probably from Ft. Riley Kansas as they had a big sale there and all kinds of cavalry inventory was sold "as new" as it had never been issues. WW1 was over and there was no demand. George in Canada (North Van.( sold it for me. George owns the sword Custer gave to his in law a week before the Battle of the Little Big Horn. !!

  25. Reyna Esquivel on July 9, 2023 at 11:06 am

😂😂😂 but then again am a millennium hilarious 😂😂

  26. Marvin Jerew on July 9, 2023 at 11:07 am

I spent ten very long years living in Coolidge, AZ and I watched the Arizona Phoenix Mart being built… and then it wasn’t. I’m a Tucson Arizona native and I have heard the promises of growth around Casa Grande as long as I can remember. At least back to the 1960’s. Arizona has long been a place where semi-shady folks can pitch their dreams. Real Estate schemes, especially, have been popular since before we became a state. My folks bought some useless property in the 1960’s. It was several lots a few miles east of Holbrook, AZ and just south of I-40. The property sits on a large underground salt dome and has no access to potable water. The entire development sits nearly empty today. Just a few old scattered trailer homes and dirt streets with street signs no one reads.

  27. André Bleu-Marine on July 9, 2023 at 11:08 am

    # 4: That place was still open in 1998, which was operated as a franchise of Chevron Gas Stations. I guess Armco took over the place before shutting down. I stopped there for a Navajo Taco for lunch inside that "Pancake House" building on a road trip in June, 1998, which was a diner at the time.

i have a crazy idea, so crazy it might just work. there are a shyteload of abandoned places in the USA and there are a shyteload of homeless people in the USA. see where i’m going with this? why not just let the homeless go live there and they can build themselves a community that fits their life style? i mean, if you’re gonna give illegal immigrants the Watson Hotel, why not give the homeless these abandoned places? no? and i thought you people care.

  30. Richard Dombkiewicz on July 9, 2023 at 11:11 am

  31. JT on July 9, 2023 at 11:12 am

  32. Teddy L on July 9, 2023 at 11:15 am

We did Santa Clause way back when. Too bad. Quirky places are a lot of fun.

  33. Waylon Canuel on July 9, 2023 at 11:17 am

Prescott native, raised in Paulden and lived in Yavapai county for 37 years. My grandparents relocated to the state somehwere around the late 50’s to mid 60’s and were missionaries to the Apache & Navajo tribes.

I relocated to central Texas 2 months ago to start a new and promising job with a growing company, as well to relocate my family out here to start a new life.

Arizona isn’t the same anymore and, while it’s my born home, it doesn’t feel like where I should be anymore. I’ve been all over the state throughout my life and have had the great privelege of taking my wife and kids to places there that they had either never seen or heard of.

Abandoned places there aren’t too surprising, but it’s nice to see a recap of some of the more well known spots to help keep that history alive.

When I was little My Grandmother Would Tell Me About The Little Jail Cell In Salt River & How It Was Actually Used Back In Her Day. My Cousins Decided To Spend The Night Out There. So They Packed Up For The Night & Its About a 45 Minute Drive Outta The Rez. They Exclaimed How They Heard Cowboys& Off In The Distant They Would Hear The Bells From The Crown Dancers.(Usually a Bad Sign) If You Try And Follow The Sound You Will Get Lost. Rocks Being Thrown From Behind The Gas Station. & Baby Cries Deep In The Night. I Have Yet To Explore My Self But Its One Heck Of a Spot!

  42. JackF on July 9, 2023 at 11:27 am

Nice collection! Makes me want to learn more. Also curious to know why you pronounce the highway "Route Six Six" instead of the standard way. Is that an Arizona thing?🤔

  43. Head Honcho on July 9, 2023 at 11:27 am

I grew up in a house on Route 66, and in the evenings my sibs and I would sit on big chunks of petrified wood in our front yard and watch vehicles go by from every state in the country. Thanks for a great video about my home state!
