I SEE THIS IN A LOT OF OLD MINE VIDEOS WHERE THE MINERS AT THE TIME WOULD PUT THE TIMBERS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER KEEPING THE WALLS FROM COLLAPSING. BUT HOW DID THEY KNOW WHERE TO PUT IT, HOW MUCH WOOD TO SHORE IT UP THAT IT WOULD HOLD.  AND HOW MUCH OF THE COLUMNS TO LEAVE TO KEEP THE CEILING FROM COLLAPSING. THEY HAD TO BE ROCK SCIENTIST, AND GREAT KNOWLEDGE OF ROCK WORKINGS.

the z set timbers were where they were rising the stope.
the angle timbers held up the back and the flat laid timbers had planks laid on them for the drill operator.
the ore shoot in the stope was used with a double drum slusher to move the ore across the stope to a point above the ore pass to the lower level.

I noted the only took straight rail and track switches.
I have taken every foot of rail you only need a good crow foot rail bender to straighten the rail.
i also noted they left behind the rail spikes. these are impossible to find today as they are no one makes them anymore.

Great exploration, fascinating mine. Almost felt like I was there with you helping make decisions about whether to explore certain sections. Too bad that awesome-looking winze at the bottom was a big letdown.

  14. Tiffany Scott on August 14, 2021 at 7:56 am

Watching this & wondering if this is the same mine that’s down the street from my home. I remember old folks talking abt the mine & a lot of people go there today to ride 4 wheelers & dirtbikes. If it is, I’m loving this video. To get a closer look at something that’s in my neighborhood is amazing

  15. ray lowery on August 14, 2021 at 7:56 am

i have read and seen videos of Randsberg California tungsten mining that continued into the 1970’s, mostly found in small pockets. After the gold mining went away the tungsten mining continued for a long time……small operations, some of them one to three miners……many mines worked at the same time until it petered out………..

I suggest to all who enjoy doing this, please consider taking a few glow sticks with you their lightweight and very handy

  17. TVR Exploring on August 14, 2021 at 7:57 am

We were in this area right around the same time… Ha, you keep posting stuff that I filmed just before the season wrapped up for me. So, I’ll be curious to see what else we both checked out. It’s a shame the lower levels are flooded, but I thought this mine was really cool in how much was packed into the area that remains accessible. Tungsten mines have never disappointed me.

Nice Explore guys……I particularly like these long, well explained video’s.
I would love to do a bit of this myself, but a few years back I had a bit of an incident that left me with the worst case of claustrophobia that I just can’t shake……..before that I loved the underground, but the thought of it theses days freeks me out………even some of the tight places you guys go bring it on for me…..I hate it, stops me from doing so many things 🙁

What I am seeing is a cross shear where one area is at a different angle from the other, and the one which is flatter is porous enough for traces of ground water to very slowly seep in either from hydrothermal upwelling or from gradual intermittent rainfall leeching into the rocks from above.

  36. Vegas Cycling Freak on August 14, 2021 at 8:28 am

11:11 That is really cool. They basically made trusses in that area, the rock is like the top and bottom chords.

  42. Rob Gandy on August 14, 2021 at 8:32 am

Actually, good filming and decent safety. Being a old hardrock miner, makes it obvious to me what that incline is. The life was right there along the ladder. Dead end, so they pumped air down to the bottom, so it would fill and rise. The water marks were obvious, and timber rot and the smell, lack of airflow showed a dead end too. The ore body can be visualized easily A diagonal thru the mountain. (Ive worked many of those).

All in all, good exploration. You could be a little safer. DON"T touch the wood until you check it thoroughly. Have one man back, but always have a 5 minute check in.

    Nicely done though..

  43. 1959Berre on August 14, 2021 at 8:33 am

I never understood how one can predict if and where ore can be found deep inside a mountain and if it’s worth digging.

  44. Marcel Beaudoin on August 14, 2021 at 8:34 am

would have been nice if they had a UV lamp.

  45. Mike 649Foxx on August 14, 2021 at 8:35 am

WOW, that first inclined stope blew my mind! Incredible.

  46. Andrew G on August 14, 2021 at 8:35 am

  47. Harry Colby on August 14, 2021 at 8:35 am

  48. Robert Beard on August 14, 2021 at 8:37 am

Great mind to explore do you guys ever think about using a metal detector inside one of those mines

  49. Michael Coker on August 14, 2021 at 8:40 am

Maybe the most stoped mine ever. And no hoist or windlass.

  50. Ginger Bread on August 14, 2021 at 8:41 am
