Ending our adventure in a mining district near Hillsboro, New Mexico, we explore an unsuspected surprise. I knew of an adit (mine entrance) just above Highway 152 heading into Hillsboro, but could find no history of it on the USGS reports. I assumed it to be a small prospect that probably didn’t go very far into the mountain, but this mine was not the case. A few hundred feet into the workings, we observed brilliant colors of yellow, orange, and turquoise lining the back and ribs of the drift. The turquoise looks to be chrysocolla or another copper-based ore, and the yellow seemed to be some sulfur-based sticky clay at the time. An afterthought also might have been uranium, but I have no idea. If anyone knows, please enlighten me in the comments!
I was up there today and figured out that the ore chute leads to another level. The topo map shows another prospect directly above this one so next time I’m there I’ll hike above the portal and see if there’s another level. It’s been a few years since you guys were there but it looks pretty much the same with no additional collapses I could see.
It name in a grouping of mines is the "Copper Flat Mine". 1877 to 1880 while looking for gold. It has also been known as the "Wicks Mine". They never found any gold and why they gave up on it and called it the Copper Flat Mine(meaning nothing but copper found). When I was there in the 1970’s there was a dead Indian skeleton halfway inside. Never saw his horse thou.
Where you guys seen the cave in and stoup, that goes goes all the way up and if you go north outside from the entrance there is another top down vent entry on up the hill. And yet another entry on the other side of the hill also like a back door. It is usually full of rain water there thou.
This is mental. I’m a New Mexico native and I live about 1 and a 1/2 hours from Hillsboro. About 4 months ago I visited that exact mine! Super crazy and epic to see more people getting to experience it! Keep up the great videos 🙂

I’ve got a mine adit about 2 miles from where I live outside of Gallup NM. It’s just one of a bunch of abandoned uranium mines in my neighborhood. I live across from the old United Nuclear disaster site.
Curious if this in just above and north of 152, is the "S curves" before dropping down into Hillsboro ) my mother lives there). I’ve hiked almost every inch of the area but didn’t enter all of the adits. BTW… if you haven’t hiked the nearby "Box" you’ll want to be sure to do that. Thanks for the video!
Y’all should do your own porno.
You can call it, "Sex With Miners"

Follow the happy trail…Deeper! Deeper! Now use the Pick Axe!
Is that a vein? Oh yes!
Hard as a rock, you are!
Oh right there, that’s the spot, get in there…..now fill up my cart with it, yeah baby!
You like that?…..Its dark. Its wet. Keep going deeper. Follow that vein! Oh yes. Oh yes, baby….hard as a rock. Get it! Get up in there! Its tight. Squeeze in there!
Look at this shaft! Look at the vein in this long shaft! Rock hard!!! The deeper, the wetter it gets!
Ride me like a cart baby, yeah!!!
This mine looks unfinished!
Even though it was a prospect, sure, they seem to have a great number of veins that could have been mined out, especially the copper and iron.
I have to wonder if the owners of this prospect ran out of money before they could even mine anything of value out, or if this was before the USGS was even formed.
i once was driving towards SLC UT but have always loved driving thru all them lonely New Mexico deserted highways …. on my way back towards Utah from s.Texas ,I had to make an emergency stop on the side of the road due to a big rain/wind storm that caught me off guard ,plus I had to pee …. after the storm I let the rain water run off a little, it was like 6 inches , then I just got out and do a little walking and stretching out on the side of the road when I saw this thing sticking halfway out of the ground, it was it’s squared rectangled shape that caught my attention …. I STILL HAVE IT AND AFTER 30 PLUS YRS. STILL HAVENT GOTTEN CHECKED OUT , BUT ITS LIKE A 3 LB BAR OF A COPPER/GOLD COLOR METAL COLOR BAR and it’s beautiful , you can see where it was created as they poured "hot melted metal over cold metal" that had already been poured, if anyone is interested in helping me out figuring what this stuff is, maybe we can set up a trip, after investigating the area, got interesting in this gold finding stuff but never have done it, I found out by reading and visiting museum’s that this land where this item was found is historically known to be a pathway by countless thieves and bandidos go go to and come from Mexico , including Pancho Villa and his army !! IT WOULD BE NICE TO TAKE A WHOLE BUNCH OF REGULAR HUNTERS AND SCOPE THE PLACE, I tried to donate this bar to the town near by in honor of my deceseaced parents ,but they told me, Wich was it’s chief of police at the time ,he told me in an email which I still got from yrs ago that they couldn’t accept the donation due to that I was on disability and that this thing could be worth a lot of money …. so I still got it sitting in a safe deposit box at the bank , had it there since I refound it in my dad’s garage after he passed away and I cleaned it , and it can be worthless but to me it’s a gorgeous beautiful piece and I just got a feeling that there’s gotta be sum more laying around …. we all should take a trip up there, I’ll let y’all know where the place is…. swear on my momma’s ashes I will !! ✌️😚💨✌️ maybe 1 of us might get lucky !!

What mine is this? I’ll pay you to claim it for me 😉
Beware of blue mineral that looks like its recent formed; could be Chalchanthite….and poisonous to lick or ingest.
Horse at mark zero.
Your thumbnail …see the horse behind you? Look at the entire rock in the view area, it’s the head and neck of a giant horse.
Lol I work in that area
You need a oxygen meter if you’re gonna go deep into mines

And what was the unexpected? I dare say that nothing in that hole in the ground was an unexpected discovery. Just another waste of time.
