Create a paint coating that needs a force over 500 psi in order to scratch
Forced restitution, and if he can’t pay then he should be forced to work in jail until it’s paid off. Or civil asset forfeiture of the vehicle used in the crime and auction it off to pay off his damages.

Yep, keying someone’s car is not new. An idiot keyed my brothers nice car many years ago and lucky for him, the store where he was parked had security cameras. My brother found him by running his license plate and this guy then made a mistake by having a foul mouth. Unfortunately the idiot did not know my brother was a cop and this guy took a swing at my brother and missed. He was in severe agony when my brother brought his knee up and repositioned the perp manhood. No arrest just instant karma and this guy did pay for the respray of the damaged areas on the car.

Why does a victim need to even press charges? Stupid loophole if you ask me. A bit of threats and intimidation from the criminal is all it might take to dissuade some folk from going ahead with charges.

I find it hard to believe the guy could own a body shop and not realize the Tesla had cameras on it, I think he was just being an asshole.
It’s a family business and he was just doing his part… the bodyshop owner should also be dragged into court to answer his part in the crime!

He realized there were cameras but to late.
I hope he gets his money back and then some for time. Like keep in mind during the fix he didn’t have his car, and he spent time finding the place, talking with them, sending the car there, etc.

A lot of comments saying $4800 is excessive. This is the Bay Area where hourly rates are $100+. The 3 stage alone is almost 10 hours.
You know you’re poor and angry when you have keys. I don’t have an easily accessible key for my car and haven’t used a house key to open the doors for over a decade.
