Growing up in the desert southwest, there are many historical reports of abandoned or never found buried loot. Tracing old maps and clues were extremely fun & confounding. Although I never found more than bones and arrowheads. (With a couple fossils).

I walked a parking lot after an event and found $14.26, mostly coins. Does that count? Also if you check the bushes and shrubbery of Bank parking lots you may find lost paper money.

There is a Story that a schooner carrying 5 or more chest of Gold that Napoleon was trying to send to the South to help them during the civil war. This alleged treasure was shipped across Canada to Lake Michigan and loaded onto the Ship, but during the journey it was spotted some say by pirates, during the chase it was decided to chain the chest together and throw them overboard with the intention of recovering it later. But when they got rid of thier pursuers and went back to get the chest, they were unable to find it.
The perfect irony to this legend is that the place the treasure is believed to be is right off of Poverty Island in Lake Michigan.

A more recent treasure hunt occurred in Montana. The Forest Fenn’s hunt. If I remember right, an author wrote a story that inspired many to believe there was a treasure hidden in Montana. Treasure hunters scoured for years. Eventually, one man (unnamed) found the riches. There are several news stories about this since it’s recent.
The only reason I know this, is because my wife and I ran into a “crazy old man” claiming to be searching for this treasure for years, in a bar in Missoula. Just a few weeks after meeting this man, this story came out in the news.
I bet a lot of these were found. The last thing someone who found treasure should do is tell people. There would be lawsuits, people laying claim, the government taking and taxing etc

I have Lived in upstate NY my whole life. Started metal detecting around 2015. Started with the Ac pro and upgraded to the At Pro. Last summer I was detecting a place called chittenango Creek not too far from where I live. Within 10 minutes I pulled a 18-karat gold pocket watch out of the ground about 10 in deep along with a 18-karat gold chain connected to it. It wasn’t long after I got another big hit. I pulled up a large silver bracelet. I couldn’t believe it. The Last item in the same area I pulled out a beautiful 18 karat gold Ruby ring. It was a size 13 men’s. Best hunt. I have more stories of stuff I found that may even top that or better.

I think there’s something buried in my basement. Idk anything about construction but I noticed a hollow spot in the concrete floor. I took a hammer and tapped the ground, listening for the change in sound and it’s a spot about 1 foot wide and 7 feet long. I have no idea what it could be.
